Alaska Miner Magazine, Fall 2020

to make sure Alaska is a great State to live, work, and raise a family. Article 8, Section 1 of the Alaska Constitu- tion encourages “the development of its resources by making them available for maximum use consistent with the public interest.” In my experience as State Representative, Acting Mayor of Anchorage, Assembly Member, com- munity volunteer, husband, father, and son, I’ve learned that we’re at our best working together for better government. We need to continue working together for a responsible action plan for Alaska. Visiting with friends and neighbors, I hear again and again that Alaskans want an end to partisan politics and want their elected representatives to put Alaska first. Thomas Jefferson said it best: “Government is best which gov- erns least.” I look to the Alaska Consti- tution because it reflects the values we share: the right to equal opportunity, the right to privacy, the right to public education, the right to be treated fair- ly, the right to impartial courts, and the right to be secure in our homes and ourselves. My priorities include: • Public Safety: Government’s First Priority • Fiscal Responsibility: Living within Our Means • Quality Education: Our Best Invest- ment Remembering Abraham Lincoln, I pledge to make sure our government is “of the people, by the people, and for the people.” Working together, Alaska’s best days are ahead! House District 22 David Nees, Alaska Independence Party Candidate As a Conservative I feel streamlining regulations, ending mission creep and reducing state agency spending to get budget back to a reasonable level is very important. Mining unlike Tourism is not one of the Growth areas, but mining is the rea- son much of the roads system under the Alaska Road commission was developed. We need to make sure all of the right of ways created by that commis- sion long ago is still available to future roads, Alaska can become a world leader in rare earths if allowed to develop. We are not a park.

House District 16 Paul Bauer, Republican Candidate My campaign for Alaska State House Representative is District 16 East Anchor - age. Having served my nation for over 20 years, served my East Anchorage Com- munity as an Assembly Member, business and operations manager for 18 years in the private sector, and managed a large cadre of team leaders helping Alaska’s At-Risk-Youth at the Military Youth Corp, I am ready to bring together all my wisdom, worldly experiences, and knowledge to serve again. I lived in my Alaska District for 30 years. I will follow the Alaska Constitution, the statues that provide the FULL-PFD to the people first, not government, estab - lishing employment fundamental edu- cation skills for our youth in secondary schools, promote vocational education, mandating civics education and aware- ness, helping our Veterans, and work on a budget that will be sustainable for years. Other priorities are: Economic growth, results oriented management, reduc- tion of the SOA administration, bud- get re-alignment and all State agencies submit business plans for their opera- tions. The 600 CPA’s in the State must be reduced. I support civil debate and careful con- sideration of all legislation. Losing on critical issues affecting the health and welfare of Alaska, energiz - es me to be stronger to fight harder for those issues with SMART goals. I am conservative, reasonable, and independent. I have been a Republican, family-minded and have been an in- sightful thinking conservative for many decades. Those that know and worked with me, including Democrat Max Gruenberg, know I am fair, respectful, non-judg- mental, and open. Today’s Democratic elected officials are deceitful, unsafe, and untrustworthy. Given the chance if they were in the ma- jority, their radicalism will be revealed. Alaska is not immune. Please join me in supporting a change in the Legislature, voting, and donating for my cause. House District 21 Matt Claman, Democrat Candidate Alaskans want government that works with our families and businesses
