Legislature Candidates Guide
Stephen is advocating for a diversi- fied and robust economy, a strong pub - lic education system, and a Permanent Fund that remains protected for future generations.
Sara Rasmussen, Republican Candidate I was elected to the Legislature in 2018, and immediately set my focus on resource issues. I was honored to serve on the House Resources Committee and focused my efforts on supporting policy that would bring more mining, oil, and other resource development to the state. Alaska is a resource abundant state, and we develop our resources better than anywhere else in the world. We use science to determine our development decisions, and protect our environment, our fisheries, and waters. As a member of the House Resource Committee, I was and remain committed to finishing the legislation that will require legislative approval for any Tier 3 waterbody. I am opposed to Ballot Measure 1 and I am committed to work to bring to more transparency and accountabil- ity to our initiative process. We need to make sure that our initiative process is not used as a tool by anti-development extremists, like the Alaska Center, to stop responsible resource development projects from occurring in our state. I am continually impressed to learn about the infrastructure and philanthro- py mining brings to Rural Alaska, and how resource development has increased the average life expectancy across the state. This is all possible because of the high standards that our miners meet to protect the land that we all love and call home. I have and will continue to be a champion for your industry, and I appreciate your continued support. Stephen Trimble, Non-Affiliated Candidate Stephen Trimble is an independent candidate for State House in District 22. His approach is outside of typical parti- san politics that do not solve problems. He is dedicated to representing a better Alaska for all. As a third-generation Alaskan, his family has been involved in resource development within the state for over 60 years. In addition to being the owner of a hard rock gold mine in the historic Hatcher Pass Mining Dis- trict, he is also the founder and CEO of Alaska’s largest solar company, recently featured on the INC 500 as one of Amer - ica’s fastest-growing businesses. His advocacy for Alaska’s mining industry spanned three gubernatorial adminis- trations as an appointee to the Alaska Minerals Commission.
House District 23 Kathy Henslee, Republican Candidate
I am a new candidate and mining and other resource development in Alaska is very important to me. I believe mining in Alaska has a very important role in how we will strengthen our economy, create valuable jobs, and build the kind of long-lasting wealth we should be experiencing in the state of Alaska! Thank you for all you do for Alaska. I look forward to meeting the miners. House District 24 Tom McKay, Republican Candidate My name is Tom McKay and I’m a husband, father, hockey lover, and proud Alaskan running for State House in District 24 – the Oceanview, Klatt, and Bayshore areas of Anchorage. I spent the last 40 years working as an Oil Field Engineer around the world, but mostly in Alaska. I fully understand how important Alaska’s resource develop- ment community is to the economy of our state, and how much catastrophic damage would be done if mining and drilling were to be targeted or diminished in any way. Resource development is Alaska’s safety net. Without legislative majori- ties committed to giving industry what it needs to thrive, that safety net frays. And the worst-case scenario for Alaska is industry players leaving the state to be more profitable elsewhere. It simply can - not happen if Alaska is to survive. As the next State Representative from District 24, I am committed to protecting Alaska’s industry as my top priority. As I’ve said during my campaign, our state’s revenues should come from the ground and not from the pockets of Alaskans. I will also commit to oppose new taxes, support stronger sentencing requirements for those who commit crimes against Alaskans, and promote the reduction of unnecessary and frivolous spending in our state budget. As Governor Dunleavy has said, Alaska’s government cannot be all things to all people. Finally, as the Republican nominee for this seat, I promise one thing above all else: I will do what I say I will do and,
