Historic convention sets tone for 2019 AMA’s 2018 annual convention in An- chorage was the beginning of a new and bold era in Alaska mining. Attendance exceeded 1,000, making this one of the largest conventions in our association’s history, and including a great mix of new and long-time mem- bers. The 2018 Alaska Miners Association convention in Anchorage began against a backdrop of the biggest election in recent history—and ended in a chorus of enthu- siasm and optimism for mining in Alaska in the coming years. Both Republican Mike Dunleavy win- ning the Governor’s seat and Alaskans strongly voting down Ballot Measure One set the tone for one of the most positive conventions in recent memory. Speakers in the industry and in gov- ernment laid out plans for teamwork and progress on pending mining projects for 2019. Governor Mike Dunleavy make a strong statement of support for Alas- ka mining and miners, making his first public appearance and press conference since the election at the convention and declaring his commitment to improve the business climate for resource develop- ment in the state.
