Biology Professor Keith Vogelsang is proudly serving as the faculty advisor for a new student club: The Pre-Professionals’ Club! This is a club dedicated to helping and supporting fellow students who hope to pursue a career in the medical and healthcare field. While most students expressing interest in the club are in the AS-Biology program, students from any program are welcome. The first meeting is scheduled for September 29th at 7:00p at the downtown Indy campus. For more information, please reach out to Dr. Vogelsang.
Watt’s Happening in Sc ence?
Professor Erica Barrow visited the La Brea Tar Pits in downtown Los Angeles, CA over the summer. The La Brea Tar Pits continue to produce the richest Late Quaternary-aged (Pleistocene Epoch ~ 2.6 million to 11,700 years ago) terrestrial fossil remains on Earth.
Pictured above is the fossil of the California Saber-Tooth Cat ( Smilodon fatalis ) – the state fossil of California. Other notable quaternary-aged species found within the La Brea Tar Pits include the Columbian mammoths, dire wolves, short-faced bears, American lions, and ground sloths.
