interpreting the same and advising on their practical application. • Work in partnership with other key stakeholders to ensure seamless service • Act as an institutional expert, thought leader and advisor on decarbonisation - horizon scanning for changes in legislation and technology, providing briefings as required and advising on decarbonisation improvements and benefits related to major projects and master planning. • Develop detailed carbon management plans and net zero road maps and ensure their realisation as an intelligent client – this is likely to include energy efficiency improvements, heat and power decarbonisation, renewable energy and sustainable transport infrastructure • Seek out new funding and partnerships for decarbonisation – including the production of high quality capital funding bids • Develop policy, design guides, performance specifications and standards for the construction of new buildings and the refurbishment or retrofitting of existing ones, from both a climate change prevention and adaptation perspective and purchasing guides • Deputise for the Head of Sustainability as and when required.

This is an exciting opportunity in a newly created role which will enable you to lead on our institutional efforts to reduce the University’s direct carbon emissions associated with energy and infrastructure. Working directly to the Head of Sustainability you will provide leadership in developing our target of being net zero by 2035 into workable plans for the next eleven years. This is a dynamic role where you will be required to provide general advice and thought leadership on direct decarbonisation in addition to the specific key priority tasks. We are looking for a highly technically competent self-starter with a flair for innovation and turning disparate data sets into highly credible yet ambitious deliverable plans for both the short, medium and long term. You will also have a knack for producing compelling funding bids to leverage in additional resources, investments and partnerships. Finally you will have the tact and diplomacy to work effectively with others to ensure that decarbonisation is successfully built into other capital projects and programmes as standard – creating tools and guides for others as required - as part of a programme of significant culture change.

2. Service Delivery • Working within overall university policy and procedure, ensure the effective management of responsibilities in the area of expertise. Plan and allocate resources to support the achievement of targets and objectives. • Ensure effective systems and procedures are in place to support the achievement of key performance targets in area of responsibility. • Contribute to the development of the Sustainability team’s strategic planning process • Ensure the delivery of improvements to systems and procedures to maintain effective service delivery within area of responsibility. • Ensure appropriate records and documentation are maintained commensurate with policy and procedure. • Provide reports and other communication media internally and externally as appropriate. To undertake analysis, interpretation and presentation of complex information to inform decisions related to subject area • Identify critical issues when resolving problems particularly where there is complex or competing information and use university policy and objectives to make decisions. 3. Policy and Procedure • Based on a broad and deep set of knowledge and experience, interpret policy and procedure, providing advice on the application of policy as required. • Contribute to the shaping of policy decisions and improvement in area of expertise. • Ensure appropriate governance is in place for area of expertise. 4.
