30 years of IDO World Tap dance Championships
2001 North American Tap Dance Festival
We will now proceed to 2001 which was a busy year starting with a trip to North America to New York City. And - to stay mentally in North America - some pages later - we will enjoy the truly interesting “History of Tap dance in Canada”
Mr. Bill Fowler † and Mrs. Gloria Jean Cuming started the project “ North American Tap dance Festival ” (NATDF) in 2001. Also to support the IDO World Tap dance Championships which has been constantly run in Europe, mostly in Germany yet. There are numerous Performing Arts competitions organized in the USA and Canada since many years - all over both great dance countries. Bill’ s and Gloria’s idea was to develop a “solely” tap competition for the tap dance enthusiast. This was unique at that time. The first NATDF was hold in the Marriott Eastside Hotel at Lexington Ave. in New York City, NY . From the perspective of European dancers thi was “the center of the tap dance world” - although there is finest tap dance all over North America. But New York is New York.

The NATDF included successfully master classes, competitions and get-together-parties. For the European participants this was a new quality of competition.
In 2002 the NATDF proceeded to the Novotel Hotel at Broadway in NYC and in 2003 to the famous Marriott Marquis Hotel just right at Times Square. Afterward s the NATDF merged with the “ American Dance Awards ” which Mrs. Gloria Jean Cuming and Mr. Ree Gold organized in several US-American cities. Later on Gloria Jean took them over by herself. The NATDF was supporting the IDO World Tap Dance Championships during all years, as well as the “ Headliners Competitions ”, run by Mrs. Irma Ziegler and Mrs. Shari Tomasiello so successfully. Truly great supporters and personal friends.
