30 years of IDO World Tap dance Championships
Message from Australia My experience of IDO Tap in Riesa by Lara Green
I was eight years old when I joined the IDO Australian Team, and 10 years old when I won Gold at the World Tap Championship held in Riesa - Children solo female. I didn’t quite understand the meaning and the experience of going to Germany and competing for my country. Now that I’m older I now appreciate how much of an opportunity IDO gave me. At the time I was excited about going to Germany to compete and have a fun holiday with family and friends and meet new friends from around the world. I had no expectations of winning or even placing! I just wanted to do my best.
As I was progressing through the Rounds, I still didn’t realise what this meant to Australia and my Coaches. When I was announced as the Gold Medal winner I was so shocked and proud of myself and what I had accomplished. I could not have done this without the support of the IDO Australian Team, my Teachers, Coaches and my family. Most of all I would not have had this amazing experience without IDO. I still rate this experience as my greatest achievement. I have been lucky enough to compete in Riesa three years in a row and hope I will have the opportunity to get back there. Thank you IDO for bringing the world of dance together by providing such exciting and inclusive Competitions for everyone.
