30 years of IDO World Tap dance Championships
Marsha Dunse / Wilhelmshaven - Germany Dancer | Teacher | Choreographer | Festival organizer
My name is Marsha Dunse. I´m 32 years old living in Wilhelmshaven in the North of Germany. My parents had a dance school, where I started dancing when I was a very young girl. I think I started dancing before I could walk.
I started tap dancing together with my mum in 1996. In 1999 I competed at my first national tap-dance competition. Many years followed dancing in Formations, Small Groups, Duos, Trios, and Solos. We competed at German National Championships and at the World Championship in Riesa, where we always attended with a group of 50-70 dancers. From Children to Adults we always had a lot of fun. Especially the Production category was a wonderful moment to work on it and to perform on one stage together with all the dancers. To come back to Riesa every year is like coming home for Christmas. We meet the Tap-dance family, get new friends, and talk to people from all over the world. I met great people In Riesa like Daniel Borak and Shyrleen Müller, Leonardo and Emanuele D´Angelo, Nancy Chippendale and her family, Alexander Ostanin, Kai and Jo Scanlan and so many other wonderful people. Once Daniel Borak told me about the “Zurich Tap Festival”. He was one of the organizers of this amazing Festival! Here I learned that there is so much more I can learn from so many great teachers from all over the world. I visited Tap Festivals in New York, Chicago, Stockholm and Barcelona. After all this wonderful experience I decided to organize a Festival in Germany myself, “Taptastic”. I started my first version of the Tap-dance festival “Taptastic” in 2015. Since 2015 the Tap World also meets in Wilhelmshaven, Germany every year for some amazing tap classes, events and parties! The tap community comes together at another time in the year to celebrate what they love most: the “Passion of Tapdance”!
