Let’s be honest… The IDO W orld Championships changed our lives! The very first time we entered the stage of an IDO Tap Dance World Championship was in 1999 at the IDO Junior World Championships in Portorož - Slovenia. We were two young brothers coming from Switzerland, and after many years of training for national competitions, we finally got the chance to compete with - but more than that - to meet dancers from all over the world. We also met you there, Michael and we still can recall you on stage announcing the final results of these Championships... You gave us our first-ever World Champions title in Duo Junior, and from that day, our lives changed! We had no idea at that time, but today when we look back at our careers, we
know it all began there ! Thanks to that title, we worked harder than ever to surpass ourselves and to give the audience and the judges our best performances over the years. And taking on the challenge paid off... From 2004 to 2013, we won 15 World Champions titles - even 16 for Costel with his Gold medal in solo in 2007. During almost 15 IDO Championships years, we gathered countless and intense memories and they made us who we are. The first coming to our mind is you, Michael, who became such an important figure in these Championships for us. You always welcomed us with your warmest smile, and we will always remember you greeting us with a high five after our performances on stage. And this is one of these details that made such a difference, giving us strength and support over the years. We never got the chance to thank you for that before, so a Huge Thank You, Michael. Another unforgettable memory is when we were 12 and 14 years old, and experiencing for the first time in our lives a national anthem with the whole audience standing up to celebrate our first-ever World Champions title. We weren’t prepared for this, and it took our breath away. Still today, we keep such a vibrant memory full of emotion of that moment. We also met so many wonderful people ! Some were judges or staff members, but most of them were dancers. And after meeting some contestants for years and years, some became very close friends, with whom we now are working around the world in festivals and shows! That’s one of the many precious - and unexpected - gifts the IDO events granted us. We always found inspiration in other dancers’ performances and the impulse to push ourselves further than before. The IDO events always were an opportunity we took to improve both our skills and creativity. If today we have the chance to work as choreographers in beautiful places like Disneyland Paris and have shows touring in famous theatres around the world, we know it’s thanks to all the strength, motivation, friendships, and passion we found in the IDO Tap Dance World Championships.
