Did you know? As a raw material, PET is a petroleum-based product that is globally recognized as a safe, lightweight, and flexible material that is also 100% recyclable. PET is the most recycled plastic packaging material in Europe. According to the 2017 Annual Survey on the European PET Recycle Industry,
out of 3.3 million tonnes of PET bottles and containers placed on the European market in 2017, 58.2% – in total 1.92 million tonnes – were collected, representing a 2.9% increase compared to the year before. Collection rates varied significantly across regions – from highs of 90-95% in countries like Germany and Finland to less than 30-40% in the Mediterranean countries or Central-Eastern European states. (Press release - December 2018)
Recycled PET (RPET) is created by recycling PET plastics that were previously used as packaging materials (water bottles, soda bottles, PET trays). RPET is used in a huge variety of ways: polyester textiles, athletic shoes, fiberfill for winter coats, upholstery, luggage, industrial strapping, new PET containers, automotive parts and more.
