patience, persistence, and old school approach is largely responsible for the foundation which I’ve built my career. Since joining Cushman & Wakefield | Grant Street As- sociates over three years ago, Jack O’Donoghue has played a critical role in fostering my professional growth and suc- cess in this industry – his door is always open, he is a great listener and an even better teacher. Most importantly, he has taught me that this career doesn’t always have to be stressful or labeled as “work”, but that there is an opportu- nity to have a lot of fun and make some great connections/ friendships along the way. Tell us how and when you began your career in the profession you are in, about your current posi- tion and why you choose the field/profession you are in today? I graduated with a degree in finance, but I never felt committed to a career in that sector – I’ve always preferred tasks that involve something tangible in nature rather than practicing theory. Commer- cial real estate was always of interest to me and given the volatility, uncertainty and risks involved with earning a livelihood in commercial real estate it seemed like there was never going to be a better time inmy life than that moment to jump into the industry. What unique qualities and/or personality trait do you feel makes you most successful in your profession? I like to think I am an even- keeled person to go along with a strong determination to be successful regardless of the challenges/hurdles that may arise along the way. I believe I’m quite thorough when it comes to my work and am willing to invest the time and effort to ensure it is done cor- rectly. Real estate deals can take you through a myriad of twists and turns and can at times be an emotional roller coaster; I think being able to have a consistent approach while never getting too up or down has allowed me to continually grow and advance my career to where it is today. Knowing I’ve done my best work brings me peace of mind and eases the stress that may result from things outside of my control. 

career? Experience is the best teach- er in this industry, however whether they are sitting on the same side or across the table from you there is an opportunity to learn and take something from everyone that you encounter. In some instances, you learn what to do and in others you learn what not to do. I have been lucky to work with some great mentors in this industry. My first few years I worked closely with Dick Cassetti who has a wealth of experience and enjoyed much success throughout his career – his

Winning the 2015 SIOR Pittsburgh’s Emerging Broker of the Year - Industrial Award. What is your most no- table project, deal or trans- action? One of my most recent and memorable deals took about two years from start to finish and provided much valuable experience. On the surface it looks like a 20-year industrial lease, but it had many moving pieces and involved multiple entities. The project involved the purchase of vacant land

and land under an existing building, the purchase of an existing 85,000 s/f building, an 85,000 s/f expansion of the ex- isting building, and a 20-year lease on the entire 170,000 s/f facility. The respective clos- ings and the lease execution took place simultaneously and involved four separate parties.

Getting all the moving parts in order with the various par- ties involved was immensely difficult, time consuming, and frustrating at times but it exposed me to many facets of the industry and was a great experience. Who or what has been the strongest influence in your
