CALL TO ACTION
LEADERSHIP We emphasize strengths. It’s the paradigm shift – seeing others for their strengths, gifts, and potentials. LETTERS FROM
MOOREA DICKASON Executive Director
Welcome to the 2024 One Circle Foundation Annual Report. You are part of the OCF community—a network of youth-service providers, facilitators, partners, donors, and supporters who have contributed to everything we’ve accomplished together. This year, our annual report theme comes from one of our ten core values: “Emphasizing Strengths”. Using a strengths-based approach is a foundational principle of our program models, rooted in seeing and acknowledging the gifts and potential of youth. It is key to facilitating Circles and central to how we operate as an organization—internally and in how we engage with our broader community. You will see this theme reflected throughout the following pages. 2024 marked a personal milestone for me: my first year as Executive Director of One Circle Foundation. Having spent nearly 30 years connected to this organization—first as a participant in Girls Circle, then as part of the staff for 15 years—stepping into this role has been both an incredible honor and a deeply meaningful journey. Like many teens, I faced struggles that left me feeling isolated and disconnected. Joining a Girls Circle was life changing. I learned how to have healthy relationships, gained a sense of belonging, and developed a strong belief in myself. I didn’t just learn about connection – I experienced it. I know firsthand the transformative power of Circles, and it fuels me every day to ensure as many young people as possible can experience the same. This past year was one of growth, innovation, and meaningful progress for OCF. I am particularly proud of the incredible people on our team and their contributions to our mission. Our new Director- level leaders, Lauren Perry and Shayla Benson, have already become integral to the fabric of our work. Our entire team of full-time staff and part-time trainers, curricula developers, and advisors have shown up with their whole selves; they walked the
talk, embodied our organizational core values, and stepped up in countless ways to meet our mission. In 2024, we undertook significant organizational advancements to position OCF for continued growth and impact—we reshaped staff roles to utilize individual strengths, added three new board members, two new staff members, a new contractor, and rehired an integral trainer. We also implemented a major systems overhaul to improve efficiency, freeing us up to spend less time on outdated processes and more time on what matters most: creating Circles, building relationships, and meeting the needs of our community. The results of these efforts were clear. This year, we achieved a 12% growth in OCF training and curricula distributed over the prior year. These numbers reflect not just our hard work but the collective power of the OCF community. Looking ahead, 2025 is all about building relationships, listening to and learning from our community, and expanding our offerings. We are preparing a new curriculum, developing advanced facilitator training, and creating more opportunities for community Circles. The more Circles we create, the more healthy connections we foster, and the better we fulfill our mission. Everyone deserves a Circle! Thank you for being part of this work and this journey. Together, we see and acknowledge each other’s strengths, expand the Circle, and leave this world a better place than we found it.
With gratitude,
Moorea Dickason Executive Director One Circle Foundation

NANCY ROLDÁN JOHNSON Board President
Lauren’s case, to a new role on staff. Read more about their important contributions. As part of our commitment to building a reliable resource for strong and effective board leadership, we partnered with BoardLead, a program that connects nonprofits with high-caliber professionals eager to serve as board members. Through this partnership, OCF gains access to skilled, mission- driven leaders and valuable board development opportunities, strengthening our governance capacity and positioning us for long-term success. 2024 marks the first year since OCF’s inception in 1997 that we operate without the full involvement of a founder. While this marks a significant transition, it also underscores our organizational strength and resilience. Thanks to the dedication of our incredible staff and commitment of the board, we successfully realized a 12% gain in outreach over 2023 and reached 102% of our FY 2024 budget, exceeding expectations while making critical investments in capacity building, product development, and outreach initiatives. This year, we also celebrated a truly remarkable milestone: during our year-end fundraiser, we raised 68 scholarships for caring adults who, thanks to the generosity of our donors, otherwise could not afford to attend our trainings. These scholarships are not just numbers—they represent lives changed, communities strengthened, and the ripple effect of empowering individuals to create meaningful connections with the youth they serve. As we look to 2025, we acknowledge the potential for shifts in government funding and the need to remain agile in navigating an evolving landscape. We are deeply grateful for the generosity of our donors, the dedication of our partners, and the steady support of our community. Your contributions are instrumental in helping us confidently address future challenges and seize new opportunities to advance our mission.
As we reflect on 2024, it is impossible not to marvel at the incredible momentum and growth we’ve achieved together. The past twelve months have been nothing short of transformative for One Circle Foundation, and I am honored to share the Board of Directors’ highlights with you. Our theme this past year, “Emphasizing Strengths,” perfectly encapsulates the spirit of our journey. The strengths of our staff, board, and community have propelled us into a new chapter, one defined by collaboration, resilience, and a shared commitment to our mission. As part of our strategic planning initiatives, we undertook an exciting and collaborative process to refresh OCF’s vision and mission, ensuring they better reflect our commitment to youth development. This endeavor was a testament to the power of collective effort, blending the voices of our board, staff, and stakeholders to articulate a future that builds on our legacy while expanding our impact. These new statements, our second revision in 25 years, reinforces our dedication to our core values and vision for the future, and they will guide our strategies, programs, and partnerships as we continue to support the adults who work tirelessly to nurture youth development. The board, too, saw meaningful transitions this year with the addition of three new members— Priscilla Martinez, Elise Turcios, and Jacquelyn Smith- Edwards—who bring diverse expertise and fresh perspectives to our work. Their arrival has energized our commitment to governance excellence and strategic oversight. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to four dedicated board members—Norrine Russell, Lauren Perry, Kimberly Selvaggi, and Christina Quaranta— who transitioned from the Board of Directors to valued advisors, lifelong friends of OCF, and, in

DIGITAL CURRICULA
UPDATED BODY IMAGE ACTIVITY GUIDE The popular Girls Circle activity guide, Body Image, received extensive updates including trauma-informed tips when conducting mindfulness activities, revised activities in multiple sessions, and current online citations and resources for facilitators & youth. We continued to convert our printed curricula into digital flip books to cut the cost of printing, enhancing accessibility for facilitators by removing the cost and time of shipping and lowering our ecological footprint. Our digital library now includes seven full activity guides and eight individual sessions. NEW DIRECTOR OF CURRICULA OCF welcomed Shayla Benson as our new Director of Curricula. In her role, Shayla is an integral part of the writing, editing, and development process of all OCF curricula. She oversees the quality and success of all aspects of OCF curriculum development and ensures excellence, integrity, consistency, quality, and fidelity of the Circle models.

SUPPORT
One Circle Foundation hosted thirteen complimentary Facilitator Support Sessions, serving nearly 50 Circle facilitators who, in turn, provided programming to over 700 youth. At each gathering, one participant received a gifted activity guide. These support groups focused on critical themes such as supporting LGBTQ+ youth, managing group dynamics, and building connections with outside programs. Additionally, our staff dedicated significant time—through phone calls, in-person meetings, and Zoom sessions—to support facilitators with implementation questions, grant applications, and program development. We also continued offering helpful resources through our blog, including articles like “Supporting Neurodivergent Youth in Circle” and “Adapting OCF Curricula for All Populations.” These resources provide practical tools to help facilitators meet the diverse needs of the youth they serve.
CONSULTATION
In addition to our facilitator trainings, OCF provided formal consultation services to organizations committed to long-term Circle implementation. These customized support sessions went beyond initial training, offering implementation planning, quality assurance, sustainability strategies, and individualized goal setting to help organizations integrate Circles effectively. Many consultations also included live Circle demonstrations, ensuring facilitators had hands-on guidance in creating meaningful, sustainable programming.

CONFERENCES
2024 NATIONAL SEX ED CONFERENCE IN PHILADELPHIA
Director of Curricula, Shayla Benson, and Director of Training, Victoria Mahand, proudly represented One Circle Foundation at the 2024 National Sex Ed Conference in Philadelphia, PA. Their workshop, ‘One Size DOES NOT Fit All: Dispelling Gender Myths & Norms in SEX ED,’ attracted over 50 engaged participants and received enthusiastic feedback. Our presence at this national event significantly boosted brand visibility, positioning One Circle Foundation as a leader in innovative, strengths- based youth programming. A recurring message
we heard from attendees was clear: ‘Students are losing interest in traditional sex education curricula and need a more relevant, engaging approach.’ This sentiment sparked strong interest in our Circle programs as a compelling, research-based alternative to traditional models. The conference not only expanded our network of potential partners but also reinforced the growing demand for curricula that foster open, authentic conversations about relationships, consent, and healthy development. • Coalition for Juvenile Justice Conference – Washington, DC • Coalition for Community Schools EMPOWER Summit – Hollywood, CA • Association of School Social Workers of America Conference – Kansas City, MO OUR TEAM ALSO PROUDLY REPRESENTED OCF AT: These events provided opportunities to engage with policymakers and youth-serving professionals, expanding awareness of One Circle Foundation’s programs and mission.

Yonkers Public Schools , in collaboration with MBK Model Communities —an initiative of the Obama Foundation’s My Brother’s Keeper Alliance —took a bold step in empowering young men by bringing The Council for Boys and Young Men Facilitator Training, curricula, and programming to the district. “This curriculum represents our district’s commitment to nurturing every student’s potential and fostering a supportive environment that uplifts and empowers young men of color,” said Superintendent Aníbal Soler, Jr. “By focusing on their strengths and equipping our educators with the tools to build meaningful relationships, we are laying the foundation for our students’ academic and personal success. This is not just about curriculum; it’s about inspiring growth and resilience in our future leaders.” Dr. Jason Baez , Executive Director of MBK Yonkers, highlighted the importance of this paradigm shift. “We had a lot of discussions about how we often focus on students’ deficits,” he said. “But with this approach, we’re focusing on their strengths instead—a ‘water half full’ mindset.”

“This poster is one of the many posters we displayed throughout our building. I was newly started with the Commission and needed an awareness campaign of what we do and why. A former staff member brought me poster boards of “Just Because” poems they had done with girls in Girls Circle. They were perfect. However, with our commitment to protect the confidentiality of our youth who are court-involved, I knew we couldn’t use any images of the actual clients. So, we decided to use stock images.
This was to symbolize that our youth can’t physically share their poems, but we could share their words publicly. We have received countless compliments and comments over the years on how powerful the youth’s words are to see.” – Jenny Hodge, Executive Director at Tidewater Youth Services

In 2024, the Board of Directors strengthened OCF’s leadership, governance, and financial sustainability while deepening our impact for youth-serving providers.
38
ONE CIRCLE FOUNDATION 2024 ANNUAL REPORT
STRENGTHENING LEADERSHIP & GOVERNANCE
• Completed a successful leadership transition following a significant midyear change in 2023. After Jana Hiraga, Executive Director since 2020, transitioned to new opportunities, Moorea Dickason was promoted to Chief Operating Officer, and Nancy Roldán Johnson stepped in as Interim Executive Director. After eight months of mentorship, training, and coaching with a professional leadership coach, Moorea officially assumed the role of Executive Director in February 2024, ensuring continuity and stability in OCF’s leadership. • Marked a historic transition as co-founder Beth Hossfeld, LMFT, stepped down from the Board of Directors, becoming an advisor to OCF. For the first time in 27 years, OCF operates without a founder in a leadership role, reflecting the organization’s growth and long-term sustainability. • Completed the Executive Committee with the appointment of Vilma Caban-Vazquez as Secretary, joining Nancy Roldán Johnson (President), Christina Quaranta (Vice President), and Harsh Jadhav (Treasurer). This leadership team provides strong oversight, governance, and strategic direction to guide OCF’s next phase of growth. • Expanded board engagement and strategic planning at a two-day retreat in Chicago, reinforcing OCF’s mission, refining priorities, and strengthening board collaboration. • Evaluated and advanced a 10% budget increase for 2025, supporting expanded training access and program growth. • Implemented a new board governance portal with enhanced security and real-time collaboration tools.
ADVANCING STRATEGIC & ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
• Revised OCF’s vision and mission for the second time in 27 years, reaffirming our commitment to empowering youth-serving professionals. • Enhanced board effectiveness by refining committee structures, defining deliverables, and recruiting new members aligned with OCF’s mission and Strategic Plan. • Published OCF’s first-ever Annual Report, increasing transparency, stakeholder engagement, and organizational accountability. ENHANCING FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY & FUND DEVELOPMENT • Secured 64 training scholarships through a highly successful year-end campaign, advancing OCF’s strategic plan to diversify funding and deepen donor engagement while expanding access to critical training for youth-serving professionals. • Enhanced financial oversight by evaluating existing practices and implementing key policy updates, ensuring greater accountability, sustainability, and alignment with OCF’s strategic priorities.
PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE
• Launched OCF’s first Crisis Management Committee, proactively assessing risks and developing contingency plans to ensure organizational agility and preparedness for potential federal policy changes impacting youth-serving organizations.
