Pakenham Road Interchange— $44m CIVIL, PAVEMENTS, STORMWATER, STRUCTURAL, TRAFFIC AND WATER SENSITIVE URBAN DESIGN
WGA undertook the detailed design of all civil roads, drainage & WSUD, pavement design, signs and pavement markings, traffic signalling design and structural design for the major improvements to McGregor road. This included:
● Adding an extra lane on McGregor Road between the Princes Freeway and Webster Way ● Upgrading the McGregor Road, Henry Road and Webster Way intersection ● Widening of the existing freeway entry and exit ramps including an upgrade of the exit ramp roundabout, ● Design of new ramp overhead gantry and metering signals on the inbound entry ramp.
WGA collaborated closely with Major Road Projects Victoria, Bild and other stakeholders to achieve a safe, optimal, and cost-effective design solution while navigating around numerous existing utility services in the brownfield environment.
WGA pursued innovative design engineering, challenging norms and reducing the need for road safety barriers and strip footings across the project, minimising the extent of overhead gantry protection that utilised concrete barriers and associated piles and footings, and subsequently providing significant cost savings.
