WGA Transport Capability Statement

Our Experience—Transport

Roads Our expertise lies in designing road infrastructure that prioritises safety, efficiency, and innovation. Collaborating with clients, we create transportation solutions tailored to the specific needs of vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. By considering factors like topography, traffic volume, and environmental impacts, our road designs support economic growth, facilitate smooth movement, and enhance the quality of life for communities. Whether it’s a bustling highway or a quiet rural road, our goal is to create safe and accessible infrastructure that benefits everyone.

Torrens Road to River Torrens— $801m CIVIL, GEOTECHNICAL, LIGHTING, PAVEMENTS, STORMWATER, STRUCTURAL, TRAFFIC AND WATER SENSITIVE URBAN DESIGN WGA was part of the consortium selected to deliver the $801 million South Road upgrade from the Torrens Road to River Torrens (T2T) in Adelaide. The project included a 4.0km non-stop section of roadway incorporating a lowered road section, a 3km section of lowered non-stop motorway, parallel surface at-grade roads along the length of the lowered motorway to connect most local roads and arterial roads, an overpass of the Outer Harbor railway line, intersection upgrades, improved cycling and pedestrian facilities, landscaping and noise barriers. The project also included the design of a complex series of linkages and service roads to provide access to existing surface level roads and businesses.

Majors Road Interchange— $120m CIVIL, ELECTRICAL, HYDROLOGY, PAVEMENTS, STORMWATER, STRUCTURAL, TEMPORARY WORKS, TRAFFIC AND WATER SENSITIVE URBAN DESIGN Majors Road carries approximately 13,200 vehicles per day and is an important arterial road, providing a key connection between Lonsdale Road and Main South Road. WGA undertook the detailed design of new entry and exit ramps to create a full interchange with the Southern Expressway, and the associated duplication of Majors Road through to Lonsdale Road. Working with Acciona, WGA's scope as the lead designer included road alignment, drainage, pavements, earthworks, utilities, bridge structures, barriers, ITS structures, traffic modelling, traffic signals, road lighting and temporary works. During the tender design WGA identified several key improvements to the reference design which were adopted as part of the final design arrangement. This included an alternative alignment of the Patrick Jonker Veloway which eliminated two ramp underpass crossings, significantly shortening the southbound entry and exit ramps and resulting in a large reduction in earthworks and pavements. As an additional design value add, the entry ramps have been designed to accommodate future ramp metering with no change to the ramp nose location and minimal impact to the as-built infrastructure.

North-South Corridor - Torrens to Darlington Reference Design— $15b CIVIL, HYDROGEOLOGY, LIGHTING, STRUCTURAL, TRAFFIC AND WATER SENSITIVE URBAN DESIGN

As a preferred major route for Adelaide's north and south bound traffic, the North-South Corridor improves traffic flow, supporting large volume of traffic around the CBD

The non-stop corridor runs from Gawler to Old Noarlunga, an impressive distance of 78km. WGA, in partnership with WSP and GHD, formed the North-South Complete Joint Venture to take on the reference design for the final - and most complex - 10.5km section of the corridor. WGA's staff provided many roles within the integrated design team, including leading the traffic modelling, which was critical in developing the overall solution and network connectivity. This involved the assessment of other significant improvements in the Adelaide network that will also be required to facilitate the movement of traffic to the North-South Corridor. WGA staff provided project management, and document control services together with leading the bridge designs retention structures, pavements, hydrogeological modelling, and geographic information systems (GIS). In addition, WGA was the lead modellers for the highly complex road geometric design.
