What sets Ivey apart? A powerful combination of five interlinked elements. The integration of these elements makes the Ivey Honours Business Administration (HBA) Program experience unique and beyond the scope of anything offered at traditional undergraduate business schools.

You’re not a typical business student. We’re not your typical business school.

Class Cohort

With a high level of classroom interaction, you get to know your classmates and your faculty team well. Outside of the classroom, you will work with your classmates in learning teams and on group challenges, such as 48-hour reports.

Your expert faculty team works together to deliver a program experience that builds from class to class. As a team, they ensure that each student’s experience is both challenging and rewarding.

At Ivey, you have three blocks of class time each day. The different areas of content are then scheduled dynamically. This allows us to sequence learning as you need it so that content is integrated. This flexibility enables timely, relevant content and events that are not part of a specific course.

When you join Ivey as an HBA student, you join a section of 75 students who are exceptional, just like you.

3 Learning Environment

“In the business world, the one constant is change. Through dynamic experiences in the classroom and beyond, I gained the core skills I needed to build the company and team that I have now.”

Unlike traditional business schools, the Ivey HBA program is an integrated experience, rather than simply a series of courses. Your faculty, classmates, and schedule are as important to your learning as your courses.

4 Knowledge Transfer

Case Studies Experiencing more than 400 real-world business cases will give you the knowledge, skills and judgment to perform at an entirely different level when you enter the workforce. Some traditional business schools use cases as exercises to support lectures and textbooks (in fact, many use Ivey cases), but at Ivey, you are taught through cases primarily. Instead of simply listening to lectures and taking notes, you dive into real issues, make and defend decisions, feel the pressure and take action. It’s a true simulation of the realities of business. Ivey is among a very select few schools around the world to teach in this innovative way. Experiential Learning Your Ivey learning experience continues beyond the classroom, from case competitions, and creativity challenges, to consulting with real clients and developing new ventures. Your experience in teams and work outside the classroom are just as important to your education as what you learn in class. You’ll develop the skills and judgment to hit the ground running, wherever your passion takes you.

Fareen Ahmed, HBA ’12 Manager, Format Strategy, Walmart Canada

An Ivey classroom is different. Instead of passively listening to a lecture, you’ll actively participate in every class and program activity. We call it high-engagement learning. You will challenge, and be challenged. And, in the process, you’ll learn more than you ever thought possible.

“Managing time effectively, adapting to different working styles, and developing a high performance work ethic are critical to your success. That’s a lesson I’ve taken from the classroom to the workplace.”

The essence of being a leader is the ability to make and defend decisions amid uncertainty and pressure, often with incomplete, conflicting or ambiguous information. Learning from case studies at Ivey challenges you to make tough decisions, and then reflect and learn from them, so you’re better prepared to make a difference in the real world.

It’s essential to be able to work effectively with others – whether in the next office, another division or another continent.
