La Bibliothèque publique du canton de Russell a annoncé un partenariat avec la Fondation Valoris pour améliorer les services destinés aux jeunes locaux. La Fondation contribue 70 000 $ pour la création d’un espace dédié aux jeunes dans la future succursale de la biblio- thèque d’Embrun. Avec la participation de plus de 80 ado- lescents locaux, y compris des membres du Comité consultatif des adolescents du canton de Russell, ce financement sou- tiendra la création d’un environnement multifonctionnel adapté aux besoins des jeunes résidents de la communauté. « Au nom du Comité consultatif des ado- lescents, je tiens à remercier Valoris pour sa générosité et son soutien constant à la création d’espaces sûrs et inclusifs pour les adolescents de notre communauté », a déclaré Lilah-Marie Copeland, vice-présidente du Comité consultatif des adolescents. « Le développement futur de notre communauté en pleine croissance dépend fortement du bien-être de notre jeunesse. » L’espace pour les jeunes comprendra une zone où des professionnels de la com- munauté pourront offrir des services tels

qualified people who have the correct pro- vincial driver’s licence that allows them to carry paying passengers. Rideshare may be legal or illegal depen- ding on the area of operation. In Ontario, municipalities are responsible for deciding if a rideshare can operate in their area, and also for regulating and monitoring the ope- ration. That includes developing guidelines for how a rideshare can operate and also setting the safety standards for such an operation. In some municipalities rideshares are not allowed to operate, and if they do, they are treated as “illegal taxis” and subject to prosecution. Both Alfred-Plantagenet and Casselman want the provincial to take over municipalities responsibility for ridesharing in Ontario. That would include creating a common operations standard for all rideshares, whether involving a company or an individual, and regulating rideshare operation in the province. Copies of the resolution will go to Premier Doug Ford, Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria, Municipal Affairs Minister Paul Calandra, Labour Minister David Piccini, MPP Stéphane Sarrazin, the Association of 0OUBSJP.VOJDJQBMJUJFT UIF&BTUFSO0OUBSJP 8BSEFOT$BVDVT UIF6OJUFE$PVOUJFTPG Prescott-Russell and all of its member municipalities.
Casselman is being joined by its coun- terpart in Alfred-Plantagenet in urging the provincial government to take res- ponsibility for regulating ridesharing operations in Ontario. After a short discussion, Alfred-Plan- tagenet Township council gave unanimous support for a resolution that Casselman municipal council approved last month. The resolution calls on the provincial government to take over the regulation of businesses and individuals who offer paid ridesharing throughout Ontario. The resolution noted that “rideshare services are increasingly relied upon by seniors, students, visitors and tourists, and residents looking for safe, affordable, convenient, and reliable ways to travel.” It also notes that Casselman, like many other rural or small town areas in Ontario “faces challenges related to limited access to (public) transportation” because there is no local taxi service. Ridesharing is not carpooling, where two or more people decide to share a vehicle on a regular basis to travel to common destina- tions and share all the expenses involved. Ridesharing developed in the 2010s as people became more used to using the Internet to find services and mobile apps for use with mobile phones also became common as a means for groups, businesses,

Cybersecurity experts have been engaged to assess the full scope of the incident and to ensure all necessary pre- cautions are taken. Updates will be provided as more details become available. Some services are beginning to come back online, but the My Family Room platform remains offline. Parents and guardians are reminded to call their child’s school directly to report absences. The UCDSB has also addressed concerns about the security of payment information for hot lunches and school activities paid through My Family Room. Payments pro- cessed via PayPal are secure, and the UCDSB assures parents and guardians that it does not store any payment information. Un nouveau bar et restaurant, le Vikings’ Den, a officiellement ouvert ses portes à Casselman, créant un lieu de rencontre dynamique pour les résidents. Situé au deuxième étage du Complexe J.R. Brisson au 758, rue Brébeuf, le Vikings’ Den a déjà un impact positif sur la communauté. L’ouverture officielle a célébré la fierté locale, avec le restaurant diffusant les matchs de hockey des Vikings de Cassel- man, à domicile comme à l’extérieur, tout en offrant un espace accueillant aux clients. L’événement a été marqué par la présence de la mairesse de Casselman, Geneviève Lajoie. Avec un ascenseur accessible en fauteuil roulant et un service disponible pour le petit-déjeuner, le déjeuner et le dîner, le Vikings’ Den s’engage à offrir inclusivité et commodité. La mairesse Lajoie a salué le nouvel établissement dans une publication sur les réseaux sociaux : « Un grand merci à Mike Seguin pour son dévouement à donner vie à ce nouvel espace de rassemblement. Le Vikings’ Den devient déjà le cœur de notre aréna, un lieu où nous pouvons nous réunir pour célébrer, échanger et créer des souvenirs durables. » La réponse de la communauté a été extrêmement positive. Brisson en fait un lieu pratique pour les habitants assistant à des matchs de hockey, des événements ou cherchant simplement un endroit pour se détendre. De l’affûtage de patins à des entreprises florissantes Ce qui a commencé comme une solution pratique pour affûter les patins de hockey de son fils a mené un entrepreneur de Casselman à transformer le Complexe J.R. Brisson en un véritable carrefour d’activités. D’un simple stand d’affûtage de patins à l’ouverture d’un bar devenu un lieu incon- tournable, Michael Seguin a su transformer une opportunité en succès. « Tout commence souvent par une idée, et je fonce avec. Et avant de m’en rendre compte, ça devient une réalité. Et c’est parti ! » a déclaré Seguin. L’histoire a débuté avec la frustration de Seguin face au manque de services d’affûtage de patins à Casselman. Après avoir acheté une machine portable pour un usage personnel, il a décidé d’offrir ses services à d’autres et a loué un petit espace dans l’aréna. Malgré de longues heures et des profits limités, cette expérience a suscité une idée. Seguin a remarqué que la cantine et les distributeurs automatiques de l’aréna étaient inutilisés, tandis que les visiteurs cherchaient de la nourriture et des boissons ailleurs. Réalisant le potentiel, il a proposé de rouvrir la cantine. Après avoir sécurisé l’espace, Seguin a réintroduit des repas faits maison et des horaires réguliers. Au fil

Désormais connu sous le nom de Vikings’ Den, l’établissement est rapidement devenu populaire auprès des familles de hockeyeurs et des résidents. « Ce qui me distingue de beaucoup d’autres endroits, c’est que les gens me connaissent, ainsi que mon entreprise, la nourriture et l’atmosphère. Ils s’y sentent à l’aise et aiment y passer du temps, même lorsqu’ils n’assistent pas à des événements de hockey », a déclaré Seguin. « J’ai de bonnes amitiés et relations avec une grande partie de la communauté de Casselman. » Seguin est fier de dire que le Vikings’ Den prospère, attirant les clients grâce à son ambiance conviviale et sa proximité avec les événements de l’aréna. Avec son esprit entrepreneurial et son dévouement à la communauté, cet espace autrefois inutilisé est devenu un lieu vibrant de la vie sociale de Casselman.

Les Vikings de Casselman ont ajouté deux autres victoires à leur palmarès en battant les Blue Wings de Perth le jeudi 16 janvier et les Timberwolves de Renfrew le dimanche 19 janvier. Lors du match de jeudi, le seul but de la première période a été inscrit par Alexis Lafrance, avec l’aide de Tristan Simoneau FU/JDPMBT MJF Æ En deuxième période, Mathieu Cloutier, assisté par Jacob Knickle, a marqué le deu- xième but de l’équipe à 0:48, avant que les Blue Wings inscrivent leur seul but du match. En troisième période, les Vikings ont ajouté deux buts supplémentaires. Vincent Bastien a marqué le troisième but de l’équipe, assisté par Simoneau et Élie, à 2:58. Le dernier but du match a été inscrit par Alexis Lafrance, avec l’aide de Simoneau et Élie, à 6:10. La rencontre s’est terminée avec une victoire des Vikings sur un score final de 4-1. scored the only goal, handing the Panthers a 5-4 loss. Victory Against the Athens Aeros Shaking off Friday’s loss, the Panthers faced the Aeros and came out victorious with a 4-3 win. In the first period, the Aeros opened the scoring, but the Panthers tied the game with a goal by Jackson Hamelin (assisted by Ryan Pomerleau and Cameron Grant) at 19:45. Hamelin (Murdoch) struck again just 31 seconds into the second period. Ten minutes later, the Aeros tied the score, but the Panthers regained the lead with a goal by Murdoch (Simon Lemieux and Blanchard) at 16:12. The Aeros managed to tie the game again in the third period, sending the match into overtime, which ended scoreless. In the shootout, the Panthers secured the win on their third attempt, while the Aeros failed to score. Upcoming Games The Panthers remain in fourth place in the Martin Division with a record of 19-14-3-2, now trailing the Ottawa Junior Canadians by four points. Their next match is against the Arnprior Packers on Friday, January 24, followed by a game against the Glengarry Brigades on Saturday, January 25.

The Embrun Panthers suffered a loss against the Ottawa Junior Canadians on Friday, January 17, but bounced back with a win against the Athens Aeros on Sunday, January 19. At home against the Junior Canadians, both teams defended their nets fiercely, keeping the first period scoreless. In the second period, both teams managed to score two goals each. The Junior Canadians struck first, but Marc-Antoine Petrut (assisted by Yanick Blanchard) quickly equalized for the Panthers just three and a half minutes into the period. Four minutes later, Xavier Boulanger (assisted by Liam Murdoch and Petrut) gave the Panthers their second goal. However, the Junior Canadians tied the game less than a minute later. In the third period, Boulanger (Blanchard and Ryan Pomerleau) reclaimed the lead for the Panthers less than two minutes in, only for the Junior Canadians to tie it again. Cameron Grant (Blanchard and Jus- tin Raymond) scored a fourth goal for the Panthers at 13:07, but the Junior Canadians responded once more, forcing the game into overtime.
