Bible Teaching Opening up the Word of God The Corrosion of Conformity
By Rev. Christopher B. Cain September 2024 “Do not be con- formed to this world,
fear of man rather than a fear of God. It’s in times like this time in our na- tion’s history where we need people who will stand up for what is right what is just and what is true even if that means standing alone. If we are to avoid being conformed to the image of this world, how is it that we, as Christians, are supposed to prevent that? Well, the apostle Paul shares that with us in Romans 12:2 we must be “Transformed by the renewal of our mind.” The Scriptures have power to radically and dramatically change the
but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2 ESV) Our society is obsessed with the crisis of iden- tity. Yet it is not really personal identity the world seeks after; it is an identity that is associ- ated with the collective group of society as a whole.
they do not realize they are children of the devil. Others think God is their Father, yet they have deceived themselves into think- ing this and are, in fact, children of the devil. Others rightly identify that God is their Father, but they lack the wisdom and understanding to know what that really means. If we would just understand that our position in Christ means everything, from redemption and new life, to power and authority then everything would change.
life of the reader. We are told in Hebrews 4:12, “For the Word of God is living and ac- tive, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” The Bible is able to make a person’s life totally new and transformed through faith in Christ as demonstrated in the predomi- nant theme throughout the Bible, that is the themes of creation, fall, and redemp- tion. The Bible shows us the importance and connection between faith and God’s Word. “So, faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ.” (Ro- mans 10:17 ESV). The Bible has the power to change lives and to save lives. Scripture has the ability to transform a person’s mind as it reveals the reconciliatory and regenerative work of Jesus Christ which He did for us when He died on the cross of Calvary. We must recognize that we must measure our life up against the pages of Scripture. It is our compass, our rule, our micro- scope, and our light. It is Truth. The only way we can guard against the deceptions of this present age is to under- stand what truth is. We seek not subjec- tive, or even objective truth, but we seek the absolute Truth of the Word of God. As believers we must be bold and courageous and willing to break the mold that the world has for us or we will suffer the corro- sion of conformity that comes with letting the world press you into its mold. Stand up for Christ now while we still live in relative ease — for the time is coming where the world will seek to kill and de- stroy you if you will not conform and bow down to it. Entire movements exist, and revolve around challenging and shaping identity politics. Billions of dollars are spent in an attempt to make false divisions, and to ex- ploit said divisions for financial gain.
The real problem we have is a world that does not know who its Father is. For some

The world does not seem to care who our Father is. The world wants to press us into the mold of conformity. It’s sad that the world thinks that they can set standards by which to live by and yet on the other hand they push the concept that everybody can live by “their own truth.” It’s clear to any thinking person in my mind that there’s a contra- diction and that they live con- flicted. The admonition in Romans 12 to “Not be conformed to the image of this world” speaks of being pressed into a mold. The world wants to press us into its mold, so they can have power over us by causing us to conform to the image they would have us to be. This is a corrosive and toxic thing for us as believers, to rob us of the identity we have in Christ and thereby strip us of the power and authority we have as sons and daughters of God in Christ is an unspeakable tragedy. Sadly, we All too often allow the world to define who we are. We listen to what the world says about us. We desire to seek the approval of the world. We often just want to fit in because of a
