The Mystery Of the Gospel
By Ron Webster September 2024
they would fear Me, and keep all My command- ments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children forever!” God wants our heart, because right thinking always follows a right heart stayed upon Him, and right living always follows right thinking. In vain, many of us continue to claim God’s name, as Ezekiel 33:30-31 explains, “The children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to an- other, everyone to his brother, saying, come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the Lord. And they cometh unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my peo- ple, (but in vain) they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.” How did we get to the place where we are so com- placent about the fact the we, as the body of Christ, are far from being one in Christ, our Lord, God, Cre- ator, and Savior, who is absolutely one with His Fa- ther? For Jesus said in John 17:19-22, “And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they (we) also might be sanctified (set apart from the common things of this world) through (faith in) the truth… that they all may be one; as thou, Father, are in me, and I in Thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that Thou hast sent Me. And the glory which Thou gavest Me I have given them; that they may be one, even as We are one.” How can the Father and the Son be one, but not in truth? Except God be one in truth and purpose, “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (II Peter 3:9). The gospel does not have to be a mystery, for God said in Hosea 4:6,10, 12b, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me (as an intercessor, a light to all the world): seeing thou hast forgotten the law of God, I will also forget thy children… For they shall eat and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom (try- ing to serve many gods), and shall not increase: be- cause they have left off to take heed to the Lord… for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.”
When the children of Israel were about to go into the promised land, in Deuteron- omy 5:6-10, Moses reviews the important things that God had said; “I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. Thou shalt
have none other gods before Me. Thou shalt not make thee any graven images, or the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth be- neath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth: (that) thou shalt not bow down thyself to them (to worship), nor serve them: For I the Lord thy God am a jealous God (I know your heart, and I know how you think), visiting the iniquity (the wrong thinking) of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me.” Those who compromise with the world to lust after their gods, in reality hate God and His commands! “And (God) shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me.” This is the gospel to those who love God for his abundant grace and mercy, and those that keep his commandments, as a result of walking by faith in His every word. Man always fails God when we put our faith in any other god! Next, Moses quotes God as saying in verse 11, “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain (7723-deceit, deception and falsehood as an idolater): for the Lord will not hold him guiltless (5353-free, as one that believes, trusts, and obeys God by faith.) that taketh His name in vain.” This commandment has only, and all to do with one’s heart attitude towards God: Yet nothing to do with the use of His name as a curse word, even though that also shows a lack of respect! There are many other things that Moses quotes of God, but I will only quote the things that have to do with one’s heart. In Deuteronomy 5:27b-29, Moses reminds the children of Israel, that they said with confidence in Exodus 19:8 and again in Exodus 24:3; “Speak thou unto us all that the Lord our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.” And the Lord heard your words, “and said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken.” But for many of them it was spoken in vain! For God also said of them in verse 29, “O that there were such an heart in them, that
in Colossians 2:12-19 states, If we (conditional) are “buried with Him in baptism (of the Holy Spirit) wherein ye are risen with Him (again the same Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus shall quicken your mor- tal bodies, Romans 8:11) through the faith of the op- eration of God, who hath raised Him from the dead. And you being dead in your sins and the uncircum- cision of your (heart of) flesh, hath he quickened to- gether with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwritings of ordinances (the Tal- mud,” and many other writings of men) that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross; and having spoiled (554-taken away) principalities and powers, He made a shew of them openly (the blind fools, and hypocrites of Matthew 23), triumphing over them in it. Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or in new moon, or of the Sabbath days: (regarding that) which are (only) a shadow of things to come; but (judge) the body of Christ (whether we are one with Christ). Let no man beguile you of your reward (to judge you un- worthy) in a (false) humility and worshipping of an- gels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind (without cause). And not holding the Head (which is Christ Jesus), from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaeth with the increase of God.” The biggest reason the gospel is still a mystery with us today is, we equate our imaginations to the working of the Holy Spirit and equal to the words of God without testing the spirit, or imagination be- comes our god.
