r m l DISCUSSIONS with Dr. Samuel H. Sutherland/Dr. Charles L Feinberg This is amply and abundantly clear from Scripture. In Isaiah 6, the Lord told the prophet, “Go, and tell this people, Hear ye in deed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.” Isaiah understood the Lord; he realized that it was not God’s purpose to make people worse off than they already were. God was revealing how heart-breaking it is to do so much for those in desperate spir itual need, and then see them re ject and spurn such love. Remem ber, the same sun that shines on the clay and hardens it, shines on wax and melts it. Is there a dif ference in the sun? No, the dif ference is in the substance which it hits. Reading the book of Exo dus, we see that God didn’t make Pharaoh more evil than he was already. All the Lord did was to bring certain demands and cer tain circumstances into existence which then revealed his corrupt heart. Q. Sacramento, Calif. — “Why is there such seeming confusion be tween the four Gospel accounts concerning the events of the res urrection day? Has a book been written by a fundamental man

Q. Denver, Colo.— “Is it poor judg ment ( it is poor judgment I know), but after a person gets head over heels in debt, how can he pay his tithes? What about past tithes unpaid?” A. This appears to be the ulti mate in conscientiousness concern ing past tithes. First of all, ask for the Lord’s forgiveness con cerning the past. Then, make sure you are faithful with what you’re doing now as the Lord provides. Continue to be generous with Him and His work in the future. Re member that God is debtor to no man. It is poor judgment for a person to get head over heels in debt. There are, of course, those in debt because of unforseen cir cumstances over which they have absolutely no control. Too many today, however, live beyond their means and find themselves in con stant trouble. This is wrong. Make your giving proportionate. Make every eifort to see to it that your past debts are kept current. Keep in mind that we owe the Lord more than any other creditor. See to it that He is taken care of first. Q. Richfield, Wash. — “Could you please explain Mark 1:11 and 12?” A. This may seem that the Lord might deny eternal life to some one. Read all four Gospels where we clearly see that the Lord is not willing that any should perish. 18
