that succeeded in stopping a carbon tax in Washington State" (Raphaël D, 2020).
New international actors are coming into play through globalisation and
challenging the power of states even as they face global problems.
In conclusion, globalisation is a long and historical process that has
enabled the countries of the North to increase their economic, political and
cultural influence over the entire globe. Recently involved in this process, the
countries of the South see globalisation as a means of inserting themselves into
the world economic scene, thanks in particular to the transnational actors who
have strong economic and political power. However, the countries of the South
are lagging behind the countries of the North in the globalisation process and
although they hope to gain significant economic benefits from this process,
globalisation and its tools remain largely in the hands of the countries of the
North which continue to use them to their advantage. Thus, the process of
globalisation is inevitable for all countries of the world, but it has historically
been owned by the countries of the North in order to establish their global
economic dominance. Contemporary global issues, however, call for a
reconsideration of globalisation as an inevitable process, as its repercussions are
difficult to manage on a global scale and it continues to create inequalities
between the countries of the North and South.
