Described as an architectural masterpiece, Union Station was redeveloped in 1999 and welcomed visitors to new shops, restaurants, theaters, exhibits, and Science City, an interactive science center. Union Station is also known for its mafia connections, as it served as the backdrop for one of the most notorious gun battles in the city’s history. The shoot-out involved mafia members Pretty Boy Floyd and Frank Nash, an escapee at the nearby Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary. Union Station is located on the streetcar line right across the street from the World War I Memorial. Make a day of it and visit both attractions!

The Country Club Plaza is a historic open-air shopping and dining destination in the heart of Kansas City.
