Tasmanian Hospitality Review: August/September 2025

Great Customer Experience Program

What’s new in the GCE Program

The Program continues to evolve, building stronger skills, stronger businesses, and stronger communities across Tasmania. Over the past few months, our team has been working on exciting new initiatives, expanding partnerships, and delivering more sessions than ever before. The team have been busily working on the development of a second stage of Venue Awareness Session. VA Session 2 is focused on diving deeper into topics like soft skill development, the very important greeting of customers, conflict resolution, complaint management, building trust and teamwork, and effective upselling. We are continuing our work with the Tasmanian Hospitality & Tourism Association (THTA) to develop a new social media training module. This is directly responding to insights from the Business Health Check (BHC) data that we have been collecting as we travel around Tasmania talking with businesses. The course will focus on training busy managers and staff how to get the most from social media efficiently. OUT AND ABOUT North West: Serving up excellence at Appleby’s Mediterraneo Bar & Grill This month Gena had the pleasure of spending the evening with the fantastic team at Appleby’s Mediterraneo Bar & Grill, leading them through their GCE Venue Awareness session. Appleby’s, under the leadership of experienced owners Wayne and Dawn, is a shining example of how passion and professionalism can shape a venue’s culture. Their young team was nothing short of impressive, energetic, engaged, and committed to delivering the best for their guests. After watching them in action during service, it was a treat to return and talk through their own reflections and experiences. The conversation flowed as easily as the service in their dining room, quick yet relaxed, with meals served consistently and with care. It’s exactly the kind of dining experience that keeps customers coming back for more. The Program is designed to support venues of all sizes and styles, offering flexible training that can be tailored to any level of service, experience,

Equipping a region for success

As the West Coast prepares for an influx of visitors for The Unconformity (October 16–19), local businesses and community members are invited to a special Great Community Experience (GCE) Program session designed to strengthen service delivery and build the regional brand. Delivered by Hospitality Tasmania in partnership with West by North West, this practical workshop supports West Coast operators in creating outstanding visitor experiences that reflect and reinforce the West Coast tourism brand. The Unconformity is a biennial festival held every two years in October, bringing thousands of visitors and national attention to the region. With the 2025 program launching on August 22, now is the time to prepare your business, venue, or service to maximise impact during this peak visitation period. The session includes: • Practical training in customer experience • Tips for enhancing your offering ahead of the festival • Collaboration and cross-promotion opportunities • Networking with fellow West Coast operators Whether you’re in tourism, hospitality, retail, or any community-facing role, this event offers tools and insights to amplify your impact and contribute to a memorable West Coast welcome.
