or team dynamic. From brand-new recruits to seasoned hospitality professionals, there’s always room to boost confidence, refine skills, and elevate the customer experience to memorable heights. Hospitality Tasmania would like to take this opportunity to wish Wayne, Dawn, and the entire Appleby’s crew a Happy second Birthday and thank them for embracing the program and continuing to set the standard for warm, professional, and genuine hospitality.

new owners Carl and Derek at the Bridport Bay Inn, met James who manages six perfectly located accommodation cottages in the main street, exclaimed over the view with Jo who has just taken over the Seascape Café, chatted with Tracey at the bakery as the delicious smell of freshly baked goodies wafted past and chatted with Paul as he swept the steps of the Bridport Café. It was great to hear that operators were experiencing a better than expected winter and were grateful for events like the Tassie Scallop Fiesta that brought thousands of people to town in the middle of winter. The morning rounded out with a visit to Barnbougle and Lost Farm, a chat to the knowledgeable, enthusiastic and somewhat eccentric Roscoe in the golf pro shop, and a delicious lunch served by the delightful Priscila in the restaurant.

North and North East

Connecting with operators is one of the best parts of working in tourism and hospitality and doing it collaboratively is even more rewarding. Recently, Tracey and Rachel from the regional tourism organisation Visit Northern Tasmania (VNT) met Darren in a café in the beautiful seaside village of Bridport to plan a day’s worth of collaborative connection. Both VNT and Hospitality Tasmania exist to support tourism and hospitality businesses to be the best they can, to be prepared for peak visitation and to plan ahead to meet future demand. In this industry, it can be hard to forecast to set meeting times with either agency as the unexpected often happens in the tourism and hospitality world! So this approach was the more casual drop-in approach, in collaboration so operators didn’t have to speak to two bodies at two different times, and for us to present a united front, strengthening the offering of tourism and hospitality. It was such a successful session that demonstrated the power of collaboration and the sense in visiting on a drop in basis rather than scheduling appointments, that we have vowed to do it again in other parts of Northern Tasmania!
