CELEBRATING THE FOURTH, BADER SCOTT STYLE
WHY INDEPENDENCE DAY IS A LANDMARK OCCASION FOR OUR FIRM
H appy Fourth of July! Though this spring has been unusual to say the least, I’m looking forward to the world starting to get back to normal this summer and what Fourth of July might bring. As I’m writing this, the holiday is still a few weeks away. I’m not entirely sure what our plans will be, but I’ll probably spend the day with my boys having something delicious to eat and catching a fireworks display. When I was growing up we didn’t have much in the way of Fourth of July traditions, but funnily enough, I ended up creating one as an adult. Two years ago, Seth called me on July 3 and asked, “What are you doing tomorrow?” My sons weren’t going to be with me that year for the holiday, so I didn’t have anything planned. I told him that, and he said, “Why don’t you come over and talk about business?” This was before Bader Scott was Bader Scott, back when Seth and I were just friends with separate firms — his was Bader Law Firm, mine was The Scott Law Firm. Seth told me to come over for an hour, so I showed up at his house at 8 a.m. on the Fourth of July ready to talk. Well, one hour turned into two, which turned into five, which turned into 12! It was 8 p.m. when I finally headed home.
By the end of that day, the two of us had hashed out the entire business plan for Bader Scott Injury Lawyers, the rechristened law firm that would bring our clients together. Seth had filled me in on
all things Bader Law Firm — I knew the key players, the marketing, and our shared goals — and we’d created an ambitious plan. Then, we went to work. Two years later, our firm has more than doubled in size. Watching it grow from 25 to 150 employees has been a crazy ride, but I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come since that marathon planning session on Independence Day. Last year, after spending the Fourth with our families, we celebrated the anniversary of that meeting a bit late, on July 11. That weekend, Seth and I went to dinner together at The Capital Grille and officially signed our partnership documents to commemorate the merger. After a year of red tape and negotiation, we were officially one firm! A month later, we announced the big news at the State of the Firm address, and we haven’t looked back since. Fourth of July was already a special day, but because it’s the anniversary of my partnership with Seth, it has become even more meaningful for me. I’m looking forward to many more years of raising a glass to the occasion as we watch Bader Scott Injury Lawyers grow! The more people we can help, the happier I’ll be.
Happy Fourth of July, everyone! Stay safe out there and enjoy Independence Day responsibly.
