Mae Jeon is a digital fine artist whose love for flowers is intricately weaved into and expressed throughout her artwork. Her compositional treatment of motifs, colors, and other inherent qualities are guided by her intuition. She often finds inspiration from her time in meditation and spiritual reading. Her first encounter with digital art was in the early 2000s. She was working as a graphic designer in New York and was mesmerized by the seemingly limitless possibilities that digital software could offer creative artists. The discovery aroused such a deep passion in her that she immediately began experimenting with digital techniques in works that tackled various subjects: “One day, a red tulip with sharp, serrated edges to its petals was the focus of all my attention,” says Mae. “In my mind’s eye, the flower embodied the anguish I was feeling at the time.” She has a keen eye for depicting human emotions through the complexity and uniqueness of each flower. Part of this ins ight might be said to stem from her childhood memories and her childhood home, which had a spacious garden rich with color and diverse species of flowers. Every flower has a mysteriously constructed universe with its own beauty and spirit, allowing her ample space and inspiration to express her creative drive. In this way, flowers can offer people a spiritual vocabulary that, when harmonized with digital technology, can incept new modes of artistic life and beauty. Since her first encounter with digital artistry, she has continued to create digital art on floral subjects and strives to achieve the highest artistic quality in each piece by making the best use of current digital technology. In 2003 Mae retired from the graphic design field to pursue a fine-art career in digital media. In a way, her passion for marrying fine-art with digital media reflects her deeper spiritual drive to delve into the divine by exploring the divine as captured in the uniqueness of each flower. She has delved into the divine, portraying flowers in a spiritual context. Being an artist is a calling and an utmost privilege for Mae, a path through which an artist serves the world by beautifying it. Ultimately, Mae desires to create meaningful artwork that represents her journey of digital expression, and to spread hope and light through her art. In 2003, Mae had her first solo show in digital medium at the Spoke the Hub Re:Creation center in Brooklyn, New York. Since then her digital work has been exhibited in numerous galleries, museum shows, and art fairs in New York and Miami, as well as at the Biennale shows held in Florence 2005, Chianciano 2013, and Venice 2019.
