or soil, but because growth is the eter nal mandate of Mind. Mortal thought drops into the ground, but the immor tal creating thought is from above, not from beneath. Because Mind makes all, there is nothing left to be made by a lower power” (p. 520). This may all be true, but in actual experience Christian Scientist farmers and gardeners give as much attention to seed and soil as though there were still something “ left to be made by a lower power,” and the “ mortal thoughts” which they drop into the ground are as carefully selected from seed catalogues as though they had some essential contribution to make a success of planting.^Rev. Albert C. Wychoff. SPIRITUALISM The Craziest Craze Dr. W. J. Hickson, director of the world’s leading psychopathic labora tory located in Chicago, comments thus on the ouija board craze: “ We’re getting dozens of spiritual ists in here, as well as ouija board fans and seance habitues. They are praecox cases to begin with before they go in for listening to the ghost rattle. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t go in for such imbecilities. A praecox is a person whose innate desire is to get away from the world of fact, to evade his material responsibilities. He resorts to curious devices for the fulfilling of this ambi tion. The ouija board and the seance offer escape. If the spiritualists keep on advertising, we will find practically every demented, under-developed and praecox case in the country talking with the other world.”

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

Irresistible Logic “ In Christian Science there are no discords nor contradictions, because its logic is as harmonious as the reasoning of an accurately stated syllogism or of a properly computed sum in arithmetic. Truth is ever truthful, and can tolerate no error in premise or conclusion” (p. 129). Here are a few samples of this logic: The divine metaphysics of Christian Science, like the method in mathematics, proves the rule by inversion. For ex ample. There is no pain in Truth, and no truth in pain; no nerve in Mind, and no mind in nerve; no matter in Mind, and no mind in matter; no matter in good, and no good in matter (p. 113). Such logic is irresistible. It might be continued indefinitely as follows: There is no ice in water, and no water in ice; no rainbow in beauty, and no beauty in a rainbow; no Science and Health in Truth, and no truth in Sci ence and Health; no Mrs. Eddy in Hon esty, and no honesty in Mrs. Eddy; no Christian Science in Good, and no good in Christian Science. This is the type of logic of which it is said, “ Truth is ever truthful, and can tolerate no er ror in premise or conclusion.”— Rev. Al bert C. Wychoff. Planting Mortal Thoughts We have come upon some informa tion which may be of value to the farmer and gardener. Mrs. Eddy says: “ It is a self-evident error to suppose that there can be such a reality as or ganic animal or vegetable life, when such so-called life always ends in death” (p. 309). “ The plant grows, not because of seed
