GPR boundaries shrink

back east from Trim Road to Frank Kenny Road, leaving the Cardinal Creek housing development in Orléans as part of Gallipe- au’s responsibility rather than Lemieux’s. One other change extends the Ottawa- Orléans riding boundary to include all of the Carlsbad Springs area. The village and its surroundings at present sit at the junc- ture of three federal electoral ridings. The rest of the GPR region from Cum- berland to North Glengarry Township is unaffected by the commission’s boundary change decision. Once all the changes to electoral bound- aries are approved by parliament, the GPR will have an electoral population of 106,240 which meets one of the EBC’s criteria, ity. CRTC regulations would only allow the company to choose either an English or French language broadcast licence and Evanov chose English since it already has one French-language station in operation in the Prescott-Russell region. Company hiring policy for the new Rock- land station will emphasize bilingual skills for all applicants in all departments so that it can serve both major language groups in the area. The new station does not have a call sign yet but the company will decide that before the first day of broadcast. The station’s radio dial location will be 92.5 FM. The Rockland station will broadcast 24 hours seven days a week and while the mu- sic format will focus on adult contemporary and easy-listening, company policy also of- fers local bands and artists a chance to get their demo tapes and CDs on air if the music fits the station’s general format. Company officials state that Evanow likes to help promote local artists when possible.

ROCKLAND | The CRTC has given the okay for an English-language FM radio station to broadcast out of Rockland. Evanov Communications Inc. received ap- proval for its licence application for a first- service English language radio station with a middle-of-the-road music format. The company plans to set up shop in Rockland within a few months. This will be the 16th station for the Toron- to-based communications outfit. Evanov has a French-language station broadcast- ing out of Hawkesbury and another 14 sta- tions spread across the country from Hali- fax, Nova Scotia, to Winnipeg, Manitoba Company officials stated that Evanov rec- ognizes that Clarence-Rockland has a mix of francophone and anglophone residents and a small but growing allophone minor-
