The new policy features definitions of workplace harassment, including sexual, and outlines procedures to follow both to prevent such incidents and also to deal with them when they occur. The policy empha- sizes that all UCDSB employees, including general staff and administration along with board members themselves, are respon- sible for making the new policy work. The policy also notes that the definitions of workplace harassment are not limited to just UCDSB staff and board members but also includes volunteers working for the dis- trict, parents of students, visitors to schools, contractors, and anyone else who is dealing with school personnel or students. BROCKVILLE | Teachers and other staff at Upper Canada district schools now have new rules they can fall back on to either prevent or deal with harassment situa- tions at work. The Upper Canada District School Board trustees (UCDSB) approved a new Safe Workplace Harassment policy during their February committee of the whole session. “This policy demonstrates our commit- ment to providing a working and learning environment in which all individuals are treated with respect and dignity in accor- dance with the provisions of The Ontario Human Rights Code and Occupational Health and Safety Act,” stated Greg Pieters- ma, UCDSB chairman in a press release.“The key here is that all of our employees are en- titled to learn and work in an environment free of harassment and objectionable be- haviour.” WENDOVER | Police are asking for help to catch a warehouse burglar. Two officers on patrol were called to a break-in report Feb. 17 at a commercial storage warehouse on Principale Street in Wendover. Police suspect the actual break-in took place during the week prior and came to light when a client or the owner-operator of the storage facility dropped in on business.
