Brooke Sumner has worked in higher education for the past 15 years and currently serves as the associate dean of Information Technology at Fox Valley Technical College. As an associate dean, she is responsible for providing academic and administrative leadership, as well as functions as an active supporter and proponent of the missions and goals of the institution. Her role requires significant collaboration with local business and non-profit organizations in order to develop holistic support mechanisms for the community that the college aims to serve. She has spearheaded initiatives in pathway development for high school students, mentorship opportunities with local industry, upskilling programs for non-traditional students, and implementation of programming and technology to meet the needs of community partners. She is a member of internal and external committees such as Amplify Oshkosh, WTCS-Working as One: Mental Health, One Microsoft Higher Ed, and the New North that seek to further the mission of sustainability to promote social, economic, and environmental balance. Additionally, she was certified as a Mental Health First Aid Instructor and has taken great pride in educating college staff, students, and community members on the impact of mental health challenges. Brooke has a Master’s in Community and Organization Leadership and a Bachelor’s in Communication Students with a minor in Spanish. Brooke’s experiences growing up in both metropolitan and rural areas of Wisconsin have shaped her educational and professional paths. She is extremely grateful for the relationships that have been established on her journey to becoming a higher education practitioner and an active community member. She has sought opportunities to be a change maker within her professional role, as well as within her community through participation in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives, as a director of the local Community Family Resource Center, and as a trustee for her local municipality. Brooke will ultimately describe her most important role, as being a mother to her two daughters Remy and Rowan. Her passions are driven by the desire to work toward a world where her children, and others, are able to recognize the presence of hope toward progress.
