Ana C. Mendes is a Brazilian biologist, educator, and doctoral student at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, pursuing her Ed. D in Educational Sustainability. With a passion for inclusivity and education, Ana’s research focuses on the intersection of conservation practices, climate education disadvantage, and marginalized communities. She firmly believes in the transformative power of education. She views her students as catalysts who can challenge the status quo and drive positive change through quality and inclusive learning experiences. In addition to her experience as an English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor, Ana teaches biology in New Jersey and actively incorporates inclusive pedagogy designed for ESL students, aiming to address climate injustice among minority groups. Ana’s dedication to teaching, research, and practical application has garnered recognition. She was awarded for her outstanding capstone project, “Mapping Parks Will Positively Impact Communities: Two Methods Tested in Elizabeth, New Jersey,” which employed Geographic Information Systems to advocate for park regulations and community engagement. In addition to her academic pursuits, Ana holds a Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Education from New Jersey City University. Also, she holds a Certificate in Applied Data Science from MIT and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from NJCU. Her commitment to leadership and public service was recognized when she received the New Leadership for Women in Politics scholarship from the Eagleton Institute of Politics in New Brunswick, NJ, in 2015.
