Aaron Trinkner has spent the last eight years as a 4th grade teacher asking himself how he could be so lucky as to have a job as amazing as teaching. He often finds himself in conversation with others describing just how much he loves his job and the joy it brings. A proud alum of UW-Stevens Point, Aaron spent his first seven years teaching in the Stevens Point Area Public School District. He currently resides in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, with his wonderful wife Lauren, a fellow public school teacher. As long as they have been together, their house has been filled with conversation about how to best provide high quality education to every child. There have also been slightly more spirited conversations about ways in which our visions for education are often stymied by forces outside of our control. These conversations would be the starting point for his interest in educational sustainability. Aaron finds it extremely important to work toward creating an educational system rooted in care, joy, compassion, and an unwavering support of all students. For education to work for all, students need to be viewed as more than data points to be analyzed with policy change implemented formulaically. He believes his place is first and foremost centered in the public education classroom and that any change he is going to make toward creating just educational systems will necessarily start and finish at the classroom level. Consequently, he is interested in understanding the ways in which practicing elementary educators view their ability to be culturally sustaining in their practice within the current framework of public education.
