F airhaven has expanded its air technology in its Ventus modular AHU range from VTS Group. The fan wall concept – a growing trend in recent years – replaces a single, large fan with multiple smaller, direct, drive plug fans arranged in a wall configuration. This wall offers several advantages: boosts AHU options with EC fan wall handling unit (AHU) options with the introduction of ‘EC fan wall’

Improved air distribution: Evenly spaced fans create consistent velocity across the cross-section of the unit, boosting the efficiency of components such as filters, coils and reducing internal pressure losses. Noise reduction: Smaller impellers operate at lower tip speeds. This contributes to reduced noise levels, making them suitable for applications where quiet operation is necessary. Compact dimensions: Since the individual fans in a fan wall are much shorter than the equivalent single fan, the fan section of the AHU can be reduced in length. Easy servicing: Small and lightweight fan modules simplify removal and handling, compared to larger single fans. Fan walls have only become feasible for widespread use through another recent innovation; EC (Electronically Commutated) fan motors. For a fan wall to operate efficiently, each fan needs be controlled and monitored individually. EC fans have inbuilt control circuits that allow stepless speed control via either a 0-10V analogue input or a serial bus network. They also provide speed and status outputs back to the main controller.
The new EC motors in the VTS units are available in 1.5kW and 2.2kW rated outputs. They are fitted with lightweight aluminium centrifugal impellers and offer incredibly compact dimensions. Up to eight fans can be fitted in a single array, delivering airflows up to 30,000m 3 /h whilst still meeting today’s strict efficiency standards. All VTS units supplied by Fairhaven are Eurovent certified, meaning that all aspects of the performance of the units have been independently verified. Unit selections and quotations are generated in-house using VTS ClimaCAD selection tools, and leadtime for manufacturing is an industry-leading 4 working weeks. Across our full range of air movement products, Fairhaven provides excellent sales and engineering support throughout the design, selection, commissioning and servicing phases of every project.
Redundancy: With multiple fans, if one fails or needs maintenance, others continue operating, ensuring uninterrupted ventilation.
