CIVIL CEREMONIES IN CARDIFF

Personalising your ceremony Whether you wish to have a small, discreet ceremony or a more traditional affair, we will do our best to accommodate your wishes. We are more than happy to discuss your ideas, and can even create a bespoke ceremony for marriages and civil partnerships taking place at approved venues. If this is of interest, please discuss this with us fully at the point of booking to ensure we are able to meet your requirements. St David’s Room For a ceremony in the St David’s Room you will be able to choose from a selection of vows, readings and music but it will not be possible to write your own vows. You can choose to make separate entrances, be given away and exchange rings. St Dwynwen’s Room The ceremony in the St Dwynwen’s Room can be tailored to allow for separate entrances, giving away and exchanging of rings. It is not possible to add readings or music of your choice, and it is not possible to write your own vows. Register Office Room A ceremony in the Register Office room will consist of the legal words only, and the exchange of rings if required. Approved premises & bespoke ceremonies For a ceremony in an approved venue you will be able to choose from a wide range of introductions, vows, closing words, readings and have live or recorded music. You may also wish to write your own vows or provide your own readings, but we will need to approve them in advance.

If he is able to marry you, he will arrange for banns to be called on three Sundays before the day of your ceremony or for a common licence to be issued and there is generally no need to involve the register office. If either of you is a non EEA national you will not be able to marry after the calling of banns or by common licence and you will need to give notice of intention to marry by attending together at a Designated Register Office. If you are getting married in any other church or religious building you will need to give a notice of marriage to the Superintendent Registrar of the district in which you reside or at a Designated Register Office together if either of you is a non EEA national. Some churches, but not the Church in Wales / Church of England require the attendance of a registrar at a marriage whereas others have their own authorised person. If a registrar is required to be present at your ceremony you should book this with us as far in advance as possible.

If you have a perfect wedding day in mind, or would like to hold elements of your wedding or celebration outdoors or even in a specific venue that is not licensed for weddings, call us on 029 2087 1680/4 or email Ceremonies@cardiff. gov.uk and a member of our team will be happy to discuss how you can do that. Our office opening hours are Monday to Thursday 8.30am–4.00pm and Friday 9.00am-4.00pm. Getting married in a Church or other religious building If you are planning a church wedding you must first have the permission of the minister or governing body before you can make any other arrangements. If you wish to be married in the Church of England or the Church in Wales – and generally you will only be able to do so if you and your partner live in the parish – you should first speak to the vicar.
