a transportation leader. It helps us build long-lasting relationships with our customers. And it puts us in position for a bright future. Our uniforms may be the most recognized part of our professional

TEAM NOTES From Gary Sasser
Women In Trucking Association Honors Averitt Again We’re proud to share in the mission of the Women In Trucking Association, offering career opportunities for women with a safe, stable, team- oriented culture. Women In Trucking recently honored us once again for our efforts. For the fourth consecutive year, we were chosen as one of its Top Companies For Women To Work For In Transportation! “From the dock and driver’s seat, to leadership and many other roles, we’re committed to offering women great career opportunities,” says ELISE LEESON , our Vice President of Human Resources. “This recognition shows that others in the transportation industry continue to see the difference in the Averitt culture.” According to WIT, to be eligible for the award, companies must have “cultures that foster gender diversity, competitive compensation and benefits, flexible hours and work requirements, professional development opportunities and career advancement opportunities.” ‘CONFIDENCE, SECURITY, SAFETY’ Following 20 years in the medical industry as a lab technician, FELCIA JACKSON wanted to make a change in her career. After starting out with another carrier, she’s thankful she was able to make Averitt her new home. “When anybody asks me about Averitt, I say it’s everything you’ve heard it to be,” says Felcia, who has been a Truckload driver out of Atlanta East for close to a year. “Many times, you hear good things about a company, but when you come in, ‘EVERYTHING YOU’VE HEARD IT TO BE’
FELCIA JACKSON says she appreciates our team’s commitments to safety, security and support, giving her the peace of mind to be on the road as a Truckload driver.
you’re looking for the bottom to drop because you can’t always believe everything you hear. But for me, Averitt has brought me confidence, security, safety, and the desire to stay for the long term.” There are several reasons Felcia has that confidence. “Having the associates in Driver Services is important, as well as security guards at the service centers,” she explains. “You become familiar with them, and you feel safe on Averitt’s properties.” She’s also thankful for designated male and female showers at our facilities. “It makes a difference,” Felcia says. “Even though you might have some facilities that are coed, at least we know we are recognized. That all starts with our leadership.” Felcia says she hopes to be able to keep driving for 10 years – if not more – and she credits our team for that outlook. “I’m really grateful for my experience at Averitt,” she says. “It’s been amazing, and it’s an experience I definitely enjoy. You hear so many horror stories, and I’m thinking, ‘I’m so grateful I didn’t have that story.’” T m
FROM GARY SASSER PG. 1 - invest in our uniform program and allotment to ensure we’re looking our best. Another way we focus on professionalism is by providing the best equipment. We make sure our trucks have dynamic safety features to keep you and the motoring public safe. And top-of-the-line amenities provide you with the best possible quality of life on the job. Our facilities are an important way we’re putting our best foot forward now and staying prepared for the future. We recently celebrated the grand re- opening of a state-of-the-art Nashville Service Center. I’m also excited about the new expanded facility that will
open soon in Mobile. And we have many other projects taking place throughout our network. All these help us meet the needs of our customers today, and they allow us to be ready for growth in the future. It all comes down to one of my favorite sayings – I’m proud of our past, and even more excited about our future . And whatever it holds, you can bet that we’ll meet it with professionalism in everything we do.

Service Center Director, Sales Specialist Started On Dock BUILDING FROM WITHIN
Throughout our network, associates have taken advantage of opportunities to grow in their careers. New Tulsa Service Center Director ZACH MEAD is perhaps one of the best examples of that commitment. Zach came to Averitt in 2010 as a part-time dock associate. He had previous driving experience with another carrier, and he completed our Dock-To-Driver Training Program and served as a city driver for nine years. He was later promoted to frontline leader before recently moving into his current role. Regarding his impressive career growth, Zach gives lots of credit to former Tulsa Service Center Director JUSTIN BURKETT , who recently moved to a Director of Dedicated Sales position. “Justin has taught me a lot over the years,” Zach says. “It’s really amazing to look back on it, and that’s what I want to do for other associates.” One way Zach does that is by strongly encouraging his associates to apply for opportunities that become available. “Who knows what might happen? You may end up really liking that position and growing into it, and then something else opens up and you can be ready for another opportunity,” Zach explains. “I’m all about teaching associates how to know many roles, because it just makes your team stronger to have versatile associates.” It’s all part of our commitment to people. “We change people’s lives,” Zach says. “When you get your foot in the door at Averitt Express, the sky is the limit.” ENJOYING THE JOURNEY Houston transportation specialist JOSHUA KASPRZYK has taken advantage of opportunities at multiple facilities. He came to Averitt on the dock at Chicago while he was in college and was promoted to frontline leader in 2003. In 2012,
ZACH MEAD (left) joined our team as a part-time dock associate and is now the Service Center Director in Tulsa. JOSHUA KASPRZYK (far right, pictured with Houston Service Center Director SCOTT HARRIS ) moved from our Chicago facility to Houston for a leadership position, and is now a transportation sales specialist there. Joshua became operations manager, and he served in that role until 2018, when he transferred to Houston as a frontline leader to be closer to his wife’s family. In February, Joshua took some advice from Regional Vice President of Sales LARRY VANATTA and decided to become a transportation sales specialist. “Larry made the comment that ‘everyone sells,’” Joshua recalls. “No matter what you’re doing, you’re selling. You’re selling your values to your kids. You’re selling your favorite sports team to your friends. You’re always selling something. It’s things you feel strongly enough about or believe in. That was the first thing that started a shift in my thinking.” Joshua adds, “I thought, ' I can do that. That’s something I already do. ' I really wanted to get into sales to not only grow with my job, but personally as well. It’s been great. I’ve really enjoyed the journey.” Joshua says there are several things that have led to his current position. “I’m not saying anything new or earth-shattering, but it’s hard work, having a standard of excellence and always wanting to be the best at whatever I do,” he explains. “I think it’s also important to have perseverance to work through the hard times as well as the easy times while keeping your good work ethic and good attitude.” READY TO TAKE YOUR NEXT STEP? INVESTING IN OUR TEAM

Bowling Green Parking One Of Many Facility Enhancements Safe parking is a very important amenity for our over-the-road drivers, and that’s why we’re excited about our Bowling Green facility enhancements! We recently added 44 tractor-trailer parking spaces, an additional 14 spaces for personal vehicles, and a new canopy to the fuel island. All of these provide more parking options for our over-the-road drivers, and extra room and comfort for our Bowling Green associates. We’re excited about this facility enhancement and the many others we have in the works. After all, we’re not just upgrading facilities. Investing in our facilities is an investment in our people. We’re reinforcing the future of Averitt. And our future is a bright one! T m
‘A TRUE PARTNERSHIP’ Relationship With Dippin’ Dots Continues To Grow You’ve likely eaten Dippin’ Dots at a sporting event, a movie theater or a theme park. But did you know that Averitt has had a strong relationship with Dippin’ Dots for 25 years? Dippin’ Dots – which makes unique, flash-frozen beads of ice cream – has its roots in Paducah, KY. Since 1998, our Mayfield team has become a go-to source for its tasty deliveries.
with Dippin’ Dots has increased nearly tenfold since 2010. “They constantly ask us to cover more area,” Ed says. “We pretty well handle everything we can in our direct area.” Additionally, Dippin’ Dots recently opened a distribution center in Terrell, TX that has given our Dallas team opportunities to build the relationship even more for the future. CONSISTENT COMMUNICATION Another unique aspect of our relationship is we have a customer service representative – CINDI BRYANT – who keeps a close eye on the account and makes sure these time-sensitive shipments arrive without a hitch. “That’s one of the big selling factors that they love,” Ed explains. “They get very timely service information if there is a problem that arises. There’s a lot of communication back and forth with them. Thanks to our service, we’ve had very, very few service issues that have resulted in melting.” Thank you to our Mayfield team for helping this partnership develop into what it is today. Your commitment is the reason customers like Dippin’ Dots continue to trust us as their source for transportation solutions! T m
UNIQUE PROCESS Because Dippin’ Dots ice cream is stored at extremely low temperatures, we work together in creative and innovative ways. “It’s pretty unique to move ice cream on a dry van,” Ed explains. “The way they do that is by putting it in what they call a break box – basically a cardboard skid that’s lined with Styrofoam, and they put the boxes of bagged ice cream into that. And they fill the top with dry ice. They know our transit times, so they usually put enough dry ice for our transit times, plus two days. If it’s a next-day point, they’ve got three days of ice on there.” Through the years, we’ve consistently delivered outstanding service. So much so that our business
We service Dippin’ Dots out of its Paducah facility to every state in our coverage area, as well as Canada. “It’s a true partnership with them,” says Mayfield Service Center Director ED DEESE .

“They love our drivers. There’s a familiarity with the customer. They know what works for us. We know how they want their stuff handled – everything is pretty seamless.”

‘HONESTY IS THE KEY’
Mercedes Frontline Leader Makes Lots Of Referrals If there’s anyone who knows about People Like You referrals, it’s Mercedes frontline leader KERRY WASHINGTON. More than 10 of Kerry’s referrals have been hired in the last two years alone, and part of that success can be traced to his availability and honesty about what potential teammates can expect at Averitt. “I always leave people my contact number in case they have any questions. I fill them in on any details that they need,” Kerry explains. “Honesty is the key thing. You want to get them here. I don’t make any promises to them. I open the book and say, ‘This is what it is, and these are the opportunities.’” Kerry is well acquainted with the opportunities that are available. An 18-year team member, he joined Averitt as a driver, and also served as a driver-trainer and freight clerk before moving to his current role, where he’s been for the last six years. Kerry is always on the lookout for People Like You, whether it’s people he already knows, connections through family or social gatherings, or people he sees from the industry when he’s out and about. “The first thing I look at is appearance and attitude,” Kerry says, “because we are the face of the company.” He also uses an “all-of-the-above” approach to referrals, using referral cards, the Averitt Team App referral tool, or simply word-of-mouth. Kerry – who himself was referred to Averitt by Mercedes associate
JOE PEEBLES – always has his facts at the ready when talking with People Like You. “Nine times out of 10, people will ask you about the money or the benefits. Then it’s about home time,” he says. “I sell people on our home time. The next thing I talk about is how at Mercedes, we’re drop and hook, no-touch freight. You have to know the ins and outs in order to sell the benefits of the job.” Of course, it also helps that his referrals know he’s made Averitt his career home. “It’s a great atmosphere. My years of service here speaks for itself,” he says. Thank you, Kerry, for your commitment to helping us grow! Your efforts are helping us lay a strong foundation for the future with like-minded associates. To learn more about our People Like You referral program, including details about referral rewards and a list of open positions, go to InsideAveritt.com/PeopleLikeYou. T m When he talks with people who could be outstanding teammates by joining our team, KERRY WASHINGTON is upfront and honest with them. He says our home time for over-the-road drivers is a strong selling point.

Longtime Knoxville Associates Join Special Group BECOMING AMBASSADORS
Bob and Gary recently retired, but that doesn’t mean they’ve stopped being part of the team. That’s because they recently joined the Ambassador Team, a special group of retired associates who choose to stay connected to Averitt, our customers and fellow associates. As part of the Ambassador Team, members can continue to support Averitt Cares for Kids and the good works of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. They can also earn referral rewards and Red Thinkin’ Rewards points, participate in Team Up Community Challenge projects, and even choose to support local operations when available as an Averitt Mentor. “I had seen the Ambassador Team mentioned in stories about other associates who had joined,” says Bob, who was a city driver for 45 years. “I wanted to stay in touch and follow the company, and of course refer people if I get the chance. But I’m not just going to send anybody over to Averitt. I want to get good team members.” Gary – who spent 41-plus years with Averitt – says joining the Ambassador team is the next step of what has been a memorable ride. “It was great working for Averitt,” recalls Gary, who spent many years as Between the two of them, BOB PARKER and GARY HODGE worked with Averitt for more than 85 years.
a city driver after starting in shuttle. “I don’t think you could find any place that would treat you like they treated us.” Both Bob and Gary are happy to have the opportunity to support St. Jude as Ambassadors. “My wife and I have always supported St. Jude. I love kids,” Bob explains. “We always had a dollar a week taken out with Averitt, but we’ve donated more than that.” Gary adds, “If not for kids, we wouldn’t have a future. I’ve always thought and still think it’s a good charity.” Congratulations on your retirement, Bob and Gary! We’re thankful for your decades of service to our team and to our customers! Chattanooga City Driver Cashes In On Natural Gas Grill STEPHEN TAYLOR had known for a while that he wanted to get a natural gas grill. Little did he know that he could cash in on one through our Red Thinkin’ Rewards program. With some help at one of our recent cookouts, Stephen did just that. And he’s thankful for the opportunity to take advantage of our incentive program that features a catalog with thousands of items ranging from sporting equipment to electronics, appliances and even vacation getaways. “I had never looked at the catalog. I realized I could get that for free,” recalls Stephen, who has been a city driver for our Chattanooga team for about six years. “I said, ‘Dadgum, this is right on time!’ That’s the best thing going.” The Red Thinkin’ Rewards program is just one of many reasons Stephen is glad to be with Averitt. “I love working for Averitt,” he says. “Averitt treats you like family.
