From Overseas to Beverly Hills

THE COMMITMENT TO STELLAR RESULTS

We began to see more and more overseas patients following my appearances on international broadcast television shows, such as “10 Years Younger,” “Entertainment Tonight,” “Oprah,” as well as programs on CNN. After these programs aired outside of the U.S., I started getting calls from people outside the country who were interested in making an appointment. Later on, I even appeared on international shows, including “Extreme Makeover UK,” which brought in more interest. As a U.S.-based dentist — and in order to be able to serve patients from overseas — I know I have to be at the top of my profession. When someone flies in from overseas, they only have a short time to devote to the dental work they need done. Time, as well as money, is of the essence. More importantly, nothing can go wrong after they leave. Once they go home, it may be months, if not longer, before they return for a follow-up visit, if a follow-up visit is deemed necessary. The work can be nothing short of stellar. Over the years, I have incorporated a lot of different technologies and partnered with master technicians who are skilled in handling the needs of the patients we serve. One of the many technologies I adopted early on was the oral laser. For international patients, you want to have the shortest recovery period possible. Following a gum procedure or recontouring, recovery can be between six and eight weeks. With the laser, the recovery is almost instantaneous. There is no waiting. When it comes to dental imaging, we can take a complete “video” of your bite and get a fully realized visual of every detail within your mouth. This allows me to work with the full knowledge of what’s going on in the mouth —which leads to better results.

More important than that, however, was putting all of these details together. I had to make sure every piece was in its place.

This is also why I work closely with a group of specialists who can help patients in all areas of the mouth. I work with endodontists (who specialize in root canals), surgeons, implant specialists, and more — it’s a network of professionals who can take on additional dental work that may need to be done in a short period of time. The end goal is to deliver the best work possible —work that requires minimal adjustment and no follow-up. That way, patients can go back to their everyday lives —wherever they may live —without the worry that something will go wrong with their new smile. Whether they are an international patient or from Beverly Hills, patients should not have to worry about the quality of the work performed. And here, they don’t. While the technology and techniques our practice has adopted have greatly benefited our international clientele, they really benefit everyone who comes into our office. When you make an appointment, you know you are getting access to the best, most advanced care, which allows for extraordinary results.

Choosing the right master technicians was also critical. I needed to know the quality of work would not change from case to case. Consistency is key.

Immersion Fitness Classes THE PERFECT CURE FOR YOUR EXERCISE SLUMP

Are you in an exercise slump? No matter how much you love fitness, working out at the gym can get boring. If you’re sick of the same old routine day in and day out, it’s time to try immersion fitness! More than just a physical workout, immersion fitness pushes you physically and mentally by engaging all five senses, creating a workout that makes you forget you’re at the gym. When you’re entrenched in the same routine for a long time, it can leave you mentally drained. Your body might be active in your workout, but your mind isn’t. The all-encompassing experience of immersion fitness creates a routine that keeps you captivated every step of the way. Imagine a spin class in a room with 30 other people — but instead of staring at a boring wall, you’re faced with a large screen that displays a digital track that twists, turns, and loops. The bike you’re on shifts and moves with the BEFORE AFTER &

angle of the track. Not only are you focused on what’s ahead of you, you’re also surrounded by music, and the trainer encourages you throughout. This is just one of the many experiences immersion fitness can offer you. Immersion fitness takes advantage of all five senses — touch, sight, smell, hearing, and even taste. Classes might involve being blindfolded or grasping the hands of other class members. Some even incorporate juice bars to add some flavor. These tactics get you completely absorbed in the workout so both your body and mind are active participants every step of the way. Perhaps most importantly, immersion fitness allows you to focus on yourself, bringing your mind away from your daily worries as you engage with the experience. For 60 minutes, you can think entirely of yourself, your goals, and how good you’ll feel afterward. Eager to try? Visit lesmills.com to find a class near you.

NO MORE MISSING TEETH The Amazing Story Behind Dental Implants

Dental implants are an important staple of modern dentistry. In addition to the added confidence implants provide in the form of a complete smile, dental implants protect your oral health against the damage caused by a missing tooth. But while dental implants seem quite ordinary today, they are, in fact, an extraordinary medical advancement brought into the world by Swedish scientist and pioneering orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Per-Ingvar Branemark. Remembered as “the man who made people smile,” Dr. Branemark was not the first person to address the problem of missing teeth with an artificial replacement. But for decades, any attempt at a dental implant had led to failure and patient suffering. The human body is designed to protect itself from foreign invaders and would reject implants made of gold, alloy, or platinum. It was Dr. Branemark who discovered the amazing properties of titanium. Instead of being rejected by the body, titanium is able to fuse to bone in a process Dr. Branemark called “osseointegration.” With a team of physicians, dentists, biologists, and engineers, Dr. Branemark created the first successful dental implant. The first patient to receive Dr. Branemark’s implant was Gösta Larsson, who volunteered for treatment. Larsson had been born with a deformed jaw, and after receiving four dental implants, he was able to speak and eat normally for the first time in his life. All four implants would work without a problem for the rest of Larsson’s life, signaling a new era of dentistry.

Dr. Branemark’s groundbreaking research revolutionized what dentists could do for their patients. A dental implant can change a person’s life. No longer do patients have to feel self-conscious about unsightly gaps in their teeth; they are instead free to eat, speak, and smile confidently. Additionally, implants stabilize a patient’s jaw after a tooth is lost, preventing further loss of bone and teeth. Continuing advancements mean dental implants are better, faster, and more effective than ever before. THE BEST TIME TO BOOK A FLIGHT Save Big on Airfare With This Simple Rule

In case you haven’t noticed, traveling is expensive . It can feel like you’re signing away your soul when you sit down to plan a vacation. But when it comes to flights, there’s good news: They’re getting cheaper! According to a 2017 report published by online travel company ODIGEO, long-distance trips across Europe fell 7 percent last year. Luckily, the same trend is reflected in North American airlines as they engage in a price war to woo a growing base of ultrafrugal travelers.

Reporting Corporation say that Sunday is the way to go, based on data from billions of flights. Tuesday and Wednesday are usually the cheapest days to actually fly, though. The CheapAir.com study also pinpoints the absolute best windows for specific seasons: 54 days for winter trips, 75 days for spring, 76 days for summer, and 45 days for fall. Of course, these are averages, but if you stick to these rules and check fares regularly on sites like Kayak.com, SkyScanner.com, Momondo.com, and on the handy app Hopper, you can rest easy knowing you’re getting close to the best price possible.

Still, a $600 summer flight to Honolulu isn’t exactly pocket change. What’s worse, flight prices are slippery; CheapAir.com’s 2017 Annual Airfare Study
