7P Ranch - Dispersal [5/9/26]

From the Sale Manager

On behalf of Joe, the entire Prudhome family and all of us at Allied Genetic Resources I want to say thank you to everyone who has been friends of and supported the 7P program for the past 50 plus years. What a legacy of performance and customer care, as this family sailed with purpose through every possible hill and valley that the cattle business put before them over the years. May 9 we will offer the culmination of that life’s work and the entirety of the 7P cow herd and production. These genetics are designed with a plan to work for you in any environment so you don’t have to work for them. Mixed emotions is the best way to describe everyone’s emotions as we push toward the sale date and I can promise that the decision to disperse was not an easy one for the Prudhomme’s. Feelings of celebration for a family and program that has done so much for the Simmental business and customers for so many years, right alongside feelings of loss as we think about the ranch moving forward without registered cattle, sales and the family that made it what it is today. Joe, Mary along with their children and now grandchildren grew up the right way here, with a commitment to hard work, pride in accomplishment and shared success. That kind of team effort is what it takes to build great programs and great families. I first met Joe at the Texas Simmental Assn. Annual Meeting, I think it was 2002? We played golf in their Association outing that day and I learned a few important things about Joe. One he was competitive and regularly outspoken, despite his quiet-natured, humble first impression. More importantly however, it was obvious that he was and is one of a kind when it came to his humanity. This was no ordinary physician turned cattle rancher, he was a good human first and everything else second. He told stories the entire time we played including one about the origin of his set of King Cobra golf clubs. He told us that he had a patient come in with a ruptured appendix that had to come out. That patient had no way to pay for procedure, so Joe did the surgery at no cost and simply asked him to pay the nurses and others who assisted when he could. The man just felt that he should do something for Dr. Prudhomme’s help saving him so he gave him those golf clubs. Joe went on to complain about how much he did not like the clubs and that they were the primary reason for any poor shot that might result during the day. When I asked him why he still played with them, he just said something too the effect of “if I run into him out here and I’m not playing with the clubs he gave me, I wouldn’t know what to say and he might think I wasn’t grateful”. That story really told me just about everything I needed to know about Joe and who he was every day of his life. For more stories and the opportunity to benefit from so many years of 7P Ranch committed effort, just plan to be with us May 9. Everyone there has shared in the history and is willing to help with what you need, just like they always have been. Sincerely, Marty Ropp, Corey Wilkins and Jared Murnin
