Waste Performance We minimize waste generation and divert waste from landfills at our properties through waste reduction, recycling, composting, donation, and other initiatives. ESRT’s Waste Management Policy outlines the necessary steps for implementation, delegates responsibilities, and provides training to our property managers, project managers, custodial staff, tenants, and third-party waste vendors to improve performance. We place clearly labeled, accessible bins for trash, paper, combined plastic, metal, and glass recycling and organic composting at all of our assets and loading docks and comply with applicable local codes and regulations. We provide education and engagement programs for our tenants on topics such as recycling, composting, donation programs, and removal of regulated waste such as lamps, batteries, electronics, and textiles.

44% waste diversion rate in 2025 13

267 Organics (8%)

3,472 metric tons

1,266 Recyclables (36%)

1,939 Trash (56%)

Occupancy increased by 11% at the Empire State Building and 8% across the office portfolio year on year in 2025 compared to 2024. This increase in occupancy contributes to increased waste generation. The data above represents waste generation associated with ESRT’s NYC office portfolio that were owned for the full 2025 calendar year. Data is absolute and is not normalized for occupancy or other variables that impact waste generation apart from ESRT’s and our tenants’ efforts to reduce waste to landfill.
