How did you get your start in banking? I had just graduated college, and was trying to figure out what to do. My future mother-in-law told me she thought I’d be good at banking, since I’m good at numbers and working with people. So I interviewed at the Hills Bank in North Liberty on Zeller street, and was offered a job right during the interview – I felt that was pretty cool! What’s your favorite part of your job? My favorite part is working with customers and helping them through life events. I’ve spent 22 years in Cedar Rapids with a specific client base. I’ve helped kids when they were little, and now they’re adults. I’ve helped individuals through the death of a loved one, with marriages… all sorts of things. Continuously getting to know the customer, and connecting with them, is my favorite part of the job. That’s what’s kept me here and kept me going.
What does it mean to come back to Williamsburg? I grew up in Williamsburg – and it is truly a fantastic and active community. People support local organizations and are involved in making the town a better place to live. That community – the way it comes together for everything – to me it’s unique. When you’re in a small town like Williamsburg, and you walk into the local grocery store, you know everybody. You know the cashiers, the kids carting your groceries out to your car, and the people in the aisles. There aren’t many places in Iowa anymore that you can go up to the public square and find all the parking spots are full, with people shopping and supporting local businesses. That sense of community is what Williamsburg is all about. Anything else you’d like to add?
I’m so excited that we’re entering this market to serve both the customers we already have in Williamsburg and the surrounding areas, and also getting to know new people and bringing the Hills Bank culture to town!
