Fellow members of SAG-AFTRA,
Tonight the Actors Party in the Actor’s House takes a noticeable step forward, and for this we thank our partners at Netflix.
This evening we honor Harrison Ford with the 61st SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award. Given annually to an actor who fosters the finest ideals of the acting profession, the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award will be the latest recognition in Ford’s remarkable six-decade career. He has been feted worldwide with numerous accolades including the Critics’ Choice Career Achievement Award (2024), Golden Globes’ Cecil B. DeMille Award (2002), and the AFI Life Achievement Award (2000). He is revered for iconic film and television portrayals, and a legacy as one of cinema’s most enduring leading men. Harrison Ford has been a prominent environmental and humanitarian advocate for decades, serving as vice-chair of Conservation International and lending his voice to global conservation efforts through EarthShare, Restore Hetch Hetchy and the climate-focused documentary series, Years of Living Dangerously . Ford serves on the Actors’ Council of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, which awarded him the Foundation’s Artists Inspiration Award in 2018 for his extensive philanthropic work. His on-the-ground activism has included high-profile environmental inquiries in Indonesia and an impassioned 2019 address at the United Nations Climate Action Summit. Beyond environmental work, Ford has been an advocate for human rights and has testified before the U.S. Senate in support of the Dalai Lama. He supports global archaeological preservation as a General Trustee of the Archaeological Institute of America. We are grateful to the Directors Guild of America, the Writers Guild of America, and the American Federation of Musicians, whose generosity permits the presentation of the film and television clips you see tonight. IATSE and the Teamsters have always supported our show as well, and we appreciate the presence of their members on our picket lines in 2023.
119,339 members were eligible to vote this year. The votes have been tallied, and the results will be viewed live on Netflix by millions all over the globe. The show is also carried on the Armed Forces Network.
Every year, we are inspired by the performances of our nominees and fellow SAG-AFTRA members. This year, beyond being moved by them, we are thankful to all of the artists whose work has comforted us, entertained us, and helped us all through a difficult year.
Keep up your amazing work and stay strong.
