BLAME IT ON THE AIR The Things You Breathe Could Be Causing Your Problems
If you’re like most people, you probably don’t realize what’s actually going on inside your own home. No, I’m not talking about your teenagers sneaking out at night or why all the cookies in the jar always seem to be gone. What I’m talking about is much simpler, but in many ways, much more troublesome. I’m talking about the air quality in your home. Over 20 years of working in home air services has taught me that most people understand having clean air to breathe is important, but many don’t truly understand why it’s so important. All they know is that come allergy season, their sinuses start acting up, it gets hard to breathe, they run out of tissues, andmassive doses of Claritin don’t help. But the answer here is the same simple one: The air quality in your home is causing your problems. We’re in the midst of allergy season right now, so youmight think this conversation is too little, too late. But having clean air to breathe all the time can keep you healthy and happy in ways you never imagined. Let’s talk about the air you breathe. Even though you can’t see them, millions of tiny particles are floating in the air in your home right now. They come from things like dust, skin flakes, pet dander, pollen, smoke, hair, chemicals, gases, and even dust mite feces, if you dare to believe it. The truth is that the air inside our homes is nearly 10 times dirtier than the air outside because space is much more compact and fresh air isn’t circulated as often. If you’re lucky enough to not suffer from allergies, you may be wondering why those little particles are cause for concern. However, any uncomfortable bodily symptoms you’ve experienced are likely caused or aggravated by what’s in your air. Particulates contribute to your runny nose, sore throat, asthma, coughing, and wheezing. Unseen chemicals and gases may be causing your headaches, nausea, dizziness, blurred vision, and even memory lapse. Studies have even found a correlation between air quality and depression, and the conclusions of those studies are clear: The cleaner your air, the better your mood. But we continue breathing these particles in and out every single day because they’re too small to be avoided. That is, unless, we make an effort to clean our air. Rol Air specializes in doing exactly that. We can do a thorough examination of your home to best determine the quality of your air and what type of cleaning it really needs. We offer four different levels of cleaning.
• Polarized eliminates dust, skin flakes, pet dander, mite feces, smoke, and hair.
• Ultraviolet light terminates and removes viruses, bacteria, mold, and pollen.
• Ozone removes odors and gasses like chemical residues, pesticides, and volatile organic compounds.
• HEPA removes anything that’s left over, creating air quality comparable to that of a hospital.
We might determine that you need just one type of cleaning or a combination of a few. No two homes are exactly the same, which means there’s no one-size- fits-all solution to cleaning each home’s air. Our promise is to avoid cookie-cutter cleaning methods because our goal is to find the absolute best way to ensure the health and happiness of your family inside your home. Allergy season may be taking its toll on you, but you have the power to fight it. Let Rol Air fight alongside you, and we’ll create the cleanest home air possible for every season to come.

Everyone knows the benefits of recycling, turning off lights when you leave a room, and grocery shopping with reusable tote bags. But if you want to kick your green efforts up a notch, here are some creative ways you can reduce your environmental impact from home. Plant native species. The summer heat might tempt you to fill your backyard with exotic plants from tropical climates to create beach vibes, but planting native species that can adapt to your local climate is much better for the environment. The plants are easier to grow and maintain, and they create a friendlier and healthier habitat for wildlife. Pro Tip: If you plant your trees and shrubs in strategic areas, then they can help regulate your home’s temperature and cut down on the need to use central air conditioning. Make household cleaners. Chemical cleaners get the job done, but at what cost? Many store-bought cleaners are full of harmful chemicals and components that can damage THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX 3 Unique Ways to Be Eco-Friendly
Transform Your Backyard Into the Ultimate Entertainment Destination
Whether it’s for family entertainment or future shindigs, warm weather beckons people into their backyards. Here are three ways you can transform your backyard into a place where entertainment is nearly endless.
Take the kitchen outdoors.
your household items, yourself, and the environment. However, your pantry might be hiding a few simple items you can combine to make your own cleaners that are just as effective. For example, if you mix white vinegar, water, lemon rind, and rosemary sprigs, you’ll have your own all-purpose cleaner for stains, smudges, and disinfecting. Plus, it will have an appealing scent.
There’s something about food on the grill that draws people together. Instead of just rolling a grill onto your patio, create a space for people to enjoy the cooking process with you. Construct countertops with built-in storage where you and your loved ones have all the supplies needed to enjoy the cooking process together. A comfortable seating area complete with a picnic table should be close by so that those not cooking don’t miss out on the action. And if you really want all the luxuries of an indoor space outside, then fill a cooler with cold drinks and hook up a TV.
Get in the game.
Pro Tip: Always research which natural items are safe to combine and use around your home before you start experimenting with mixes.
Encouraging fun games and competitive activities is a great way to stay entertained outdoors. There are lots of options for backyard games, and many of them are easy to construct yourself. You can dig a long sandpit for horseshoes; trim your lawn short for bocce, croquet, or miniature golf; and even build your own cornhole and ladder toss games. These games and their various equipment are versatile and easy to store, so you don’t have to resort to just one.
Swap paper for cloth. If you stop and think about it, then you’ll probably realize you use a lot of different paper products in your home, such as napkins, paper towels, and tissues. Some of these are recyclable, but most aren’t. If you want to reduce the amount of trash you generate, then use cloth napkins when eating meals, rags and towels for cleaning and hand-drying, and a handkerchief for nose- blowing. They’re washable and reusable, meaning you generate less product for the landfill.
Gather around the fire.
The fun doesn’t have to stop when the sun goes down. Spend summer nights around a crackling fire right in your backyard. Make your firepit unique by constructing it from brick or stone and gather an array of crafty benches, comfy chairs, or fun logs and stumps for an authentic camping feel. Keep a bin of blankets on hand, right next to the s’mores supplies. And don’t forget to brush up on your scariest ghost stories. You don’t need a huge backyard or a swimming pool to create a place that people love to gather. By getting creative with your entertainment options and adding your own personal touch, you’ll create countless memories to reminisce on for years to come.
Pro Tip: When doing laundry, always use cold water instead of hot to save energy.
There are countless ways for families to reduce their environmental impact every day beyond the above suggestions. All it takes is a little care and creativity.

5 STEPS FOR CHOOSING THE RIGHT CONTRACTOR Doing Your Homework Makes All the Difference
Finding the right contractor to remodel your home can take some time, but it’s time well spent if it means receiving exactly the work you want. Here are the five essential steps you should take to pick the right contractor. Step 1: Get Recommendations Create a list of local contractors who have the right expertise for your job. You can compile this list by asking others for recommendations, searching online, reading reviews, and using social media. Red flags: Any contractors who are hard to find information on or don’t have any online presence or reviews. Step 2: Review Portfolios Narrow your list by reviewing each contractor’s portfolio of recent projects. A good portfolio should contain at least 10 projects with before and after photos and notes about the process. Red flags: Portfolios with too few projects or photos or little experience with your type of project. Step 3: Verify Licensing and Certification Once you’ve narrowed down your list, ask to see licensing and certification. Legal requirements vary by state and county, so call the licensing division of your community for specific requirements. Contractors should also have liability insurance. Red flags: Anyone who doesn’t have the right credentials or is hesitant about giving you the information. Step 4: Gather References Now that you have just a few contractors to consider, ask them for references. This is a common practice, and any reputable contractor will happily provide
them. Ask the references the following questions: Did the contractor stay on schedule? Were problems promptly addressed? How was the quality of work? Was the cost reasonable? Red flags: Too few references or bad, ambivalent, or hesitant reviews. Step 5: Calculate Bids and Hiring After eliminating anyone who does subpar work, the final step is reviewing the proposals from those remaining. Consider
costs, timeline, and types of materials. Remember that it’s not necessarily best to go with the cheapest bid. Once you accept one, carefully review the final contract. Red flags: Contractors who try to pressure you or don’t give you enough time before you must sign. Finding the perfect contractor for your project means you have to be willing to do some homework, but the more you put into the process, the better the results you’ll get out of it.

Naomi Campbell’s ‘Eye of Horus’ House
Built in 1885 in East Hampton, New York, this deceptively quaint-looking cottage was purchased recently by the “Iron Man” actor after it caught his eye, probably thanks to the giant rotating windmill arms.
Model and actress Naomi Campbell’s “Eye of Horus” house befittingly sits on Cleopatra Island in Turkey. From a bird’s-eye view, the home looks like the eye of the Egyptian god, and its design is incredibly energy-efficient.
