From the President by Paul Miller, President, Board of Governors

The Club will be meeting with the Pacesetter staff to further analyze and fine tune the analytics, and will work towards targeting the app to further enhance the membership experience going forward. Having said that, I believe the app had a very good first year. If you have not used the Mobile App I would encourage you to give it a try. Next, I’d like to spend a paragraph or two talking about a recent theft that occurred last week behind the Oaks number 6 green. The green is orientated well above the cart path when approaching the putting surface from behind, making it very difficult from the green to have a clear view of a parked cart. We believe the perpetrator(s) waited outside the gates behind the green for the golfers to ascend up to the putting surface. They then approached the golf cart and took personal property out of two golf bags and the cart, including one of our guest’s wallet. This is not the first time theft has occurred in this area of the Oaks 6. The Club recently constructed a “turn out” adjacent to the Oaks 6 green, which if parked in when

It’s hard to believe we are heading into November! The holiday season is such a great time to come to the Club with friends and family. Many of you have utilized the Club’s Pacesetter Mobile App to make managing your activities at the Club more efficient. I thought I would share a couple of interesting analytics encompassing the app’s first year of operation: • Total Clicks: 91,507 • Notifications: 14,425 • Tee times booked: 19,657 • Club Calendar: 4,867 • My Statement: 4,418 • Dining Reservations: 2,548 • Take Out, Food: 2,126 • Fitness Classes : 1,550

going up to the green should serve to reduce the risk of theft. It is located further from Grand Lakes Avenue where most golfers traditionally have parked, leaving a smaller window of time for any wrong doing to occur. Management is currently working on other steps to reduce the chance of theft around the

Oaks 6 green. The Pro Shop will keep the membership apprised of any new developments going forward. Please report any suspicious activity to the Pro Shop immediately. The Pro Shop continues to experience an unacceptable number of abandoned tee times. Abandoned tee times occur when a member makes a tee time, and then subsequently fails to call in to let the Pro Shop know that they won’t be able to make it (no call, no show). Last Saturday over ten members abandoned tee times that were scheduled before 12 noon. The negative effects of not notifying the Pro Shop include a potential loss of cart revenue, a potential loss of guest fees, and a potential loss of food and beverage revenues. Not calling in can also foreclose other members from obtaining tee times, arguably the worst effect of tee time abandonment. After discussing this continuing problem with manage- ment and the Board, it has been determined that a financial penalty will be instituted to handle “no call, no show” situations: First Infraction: $20 Fine Additional Infractions: $40 Fine, per occurrence The Board may further refine these sanctions for incorporation into the update on the Club’s Rules and Regulations later in the year. For now, the above sancti- ons will begin being applied for tee times booked starting Friday, November 3rd . No one in the Pro Shop wants to assess monetary sanctions; please show respect to fellow Club members and the Pro Shop by remembering to call in if you are not going to utilize a reserved tee time. Management thanks you ahead of time for your due diligence. The Holiday Season is officially kicking off and that means there are many ways to enjoy the Club in November and December. In addition to our traditional Thanksgiving Dinner on November 23rd, you will find information in this month’s Seven Oaks Scene on all the Club’s festivities through the end of 2023. We hope that you will join in the fun! I look forward to seeing everyone as we move into the Holidays.

A Fond Farewell

After 18 years of hard work and dedication to Seven Oaks Country Club tennis program, we wish Jonni Seymour the best that the future has in store for her. Jonni came to Seven Oaks Country Club with a plethora of accomplishments. She is one of Bakersfield's elite athletes. Tennis was the avenue she chose to excel in as a CIF Valley champ and three year MVP at Highland High School, and at age 16 was on the USTA national winning team ranked #8 in singles and #1 in doubles. Jonni's rankings as a member of Southern California Tennis Association are equally as impressive at #66 in singles and #1 in doubles.

Jonni is also one of the premier collegiate tennis players on the west coast who became the first University of California Irvine women's player to earn league first team, singles and doubles honors ranking nationally, also earning All Big West first team honors in singles and doubles for three consecutive years and ranking as high as # 77 in singles and #12 in doubles. Jonni's Irvine coach, Coach Edles, said this about her, "Jonni is a team leader on and off the court setting an excellent example for all our players. Her greatest attribute is her consistency, she has the ability to perform at a high-level every day, day in and day out." As if all that wasn't enough, Jonni also competed on the European professional tour, but a case of homesickness brought Jonni back to her roots. She returned to UCI as a coach, but her yearning to be back in Bakersfield with family, was the edge, Director of Tennis, Dave Krueger had, to get her to join our team at Seven Oaks.

"We are so grateful she did, Dave said, Jonni was an asset, at Seven Oaks, because she not only made and shaped better tennis players, but she genuinely cared aout everyone she taught, and became a mentor and a dear friend to so many. She was part of something special, and her impact here will never be forgotten. Thank you for being such an amazing coworker and friend; Seven Oaks will greatly miss you for all the experience you brought to the club." Proud parents, John and Patty have always been her biggest fans and will take some credit for her good genes. The sweetest victory came later in life when she teamed up with her dad to win two Gold Balls in The National Father-Daughter tennis tournament in SanDiego and Boston. Members, Joe & Joan Tallman had this to say about Jonni, "Jonni has been such a great asset to the tennis program at Seven Oaks Country Club and she will really be missed. We wish her all the best in the future."

Another member, Lauren Eittreim said, "Jonni has always made tennis FUN! I had never played tennis before, but after attending her beginner drills, I was hooked. Her personality, commentary, music, games, and encouragement kept me wanting to come back. Next thing I knew, I was taking lessons and spending my mornings out on the courts. I don't know that I would've had the courage to keep showing up if it wasn't for her. Myself, my kids, and our "Newbie" crew have all enjoyed our time on the court with Jonni. She became a friend to all of us!" Another member, Bri Starr said, "Walking into Jonni's tennis drills for the first time 4 1/2 years ago was life-changing! She made me fall in love with a sport that I knew nothing about. Looking back, I can't imagine my life without tennis. She has taught me so much and the friendships that I have made are priceless."

JUNIOR 'ROGY' TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS 4pm to 5:30pm

by Dave Krueger, Tennis Director

ADULT TENNIS WOMEN'S INTERMEDIATE DRILLS with Dave

Wednesdays 8:30 - 10am Begins November 15th!

LIVEBALL DRILLS Intermediate/Advanced with Jason (3.5 + USTA rating) Mondays & Wednesdays 6:30pm - 8pm

High School Drills Tuesdays & Thursdays 4pm - 5:30pm

On court drills will include point play, dead ball drills, fitness drills and mental toughness skills. Match play focuses on players using tactical and technical skills developed during practice.

Clare Gilliam added, "Joining the club in 1998. I wasn't really sure if I could invest the time on the golf course, being so busy with two small children. I found my way to the tennis courts, where I fumbled around with a racquet and ball until 2005. Jonni was the difference! I have valued our time on the court as well as off the courts. She has become my ride or die person. Love her!!" So you all can see that we are losing a very special staff member, tennis coach, and sometimes the "A player" in a golf tourney pinch. But we are not losing a friend, Jonni is moving on to an office job at Hudson Value, a local family business. She may also run into some of you in Oxnard where she spends a lot of her time.

Not good bye, but see you around, Jonni Seymour!
