EXHIBITS Crime & Punishment: Maintaining Order in Norfolk County MAR 28 – AUG 29 This exhibit will explore 125 years of Norfolk County’s legal system, focusing particularly on the County Courthouse and Jail, the County Sheriff and development of the modern policing system. Visitors will delve into a variety of artifacts and archival materials that reveal the complex history of crime and punishment and the lasting impact of historical justice practices.
NORFOLK COUNTY ARCHIVES EVENTS The Norfolk History Club is back! JAN – DEC A children’s program developed by Norfolk County Archives that involves sending club members monthly packages with family- friendly projects that explore our rich and
diverse local history. Packages include activities such as puzzles, games and even some surprises. We hope that the content is so interesting that adults will enjoy learning the history of Norfolk County too! The fee covers membership for the entire calendar year. $50 per child. Register by February 28, 2025
Digging up your Roots: Genealogy Workshop – Beginner Level MAR 25 – 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
A workshop designed for individuals who want to begin their family history research but don’t know where to start. Learn how to find and navigate archival records such as vital statistic records, census records, property tax assessments and more! $20 per person. Pre-registration required. Digging up your Roots: Genealogy Workshop – Intermediate Level APR 23 – 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm A workshop designed for individuals who have some experience doing genealogy research but want to dig a little deeper into their local archives’ collection. Learn how to find and navigate land records including abstracts and deeds and other archival records such as wills, 5th Annual Norfolk County Genealogy Symposium SEP 13 – 12:00 pm – 4:30 pm A conference style event that includes vendors, a used book sale of local history and genealogy books, and engaging sessions on family history research from various guest speakers across Ontario. The symposium offers a variety of topics geared to both beginners and avid genealogists! $25 per person. Pre-registration required. legal records, family collections and more! $20 per person.
