Biola Broadcaster - 1962-03

THE BIBLE INSTITUTE OF LOS AN GELES was bom fifty-four years ago of the prayers and vision of two men, Mr. Lyman Stewart and the Rev. T. C. Horton. Others, includ ing Dr. R. A. Torrey, first Dean ; of The Bible Institute, have worn the mantle of leadership. For the past twenty-five years, Biola’s lead ership has been vested in Dr. Louis. T. Talbot, Chancellor and former President, and Dr. Samuel H. Suth erland, President. Dedicated leader ship and the faithful prayer and financial support of many thousands of God’s people have made Biola the West’s leading evangelical training center for over half a century.

While many other- so-called Christian edu cational institutions have fallen to theological liberalism and worldliness, Biola’s founda tional doctrinal beliefs and practices are iden tical with those of its dedicated founders. However, upon their foundation, have been built the present four schools of The Bible Institute of Los Angeles, Incorporated. A thorough scholarship and deeply spiritual dedication on the part of its eminently quali fied faculty make Biola’s place in the field of Christian Education truly unique. In a day when the very foundations of American democracy are being shaken by the onslaughts of atheistic communist ideology, Biola-trained young people are thoroughly equipped to meet the challenge of leadership —intellectually, morally and spiritually. Located since 1959 on a 70-acre “miracle” campus in suburban La Mirada, the Biola stu dent body has grown by 100 each year since moving to the new facilities. With over 1,000 young people now in training, present facilities are inadequate to handle the present enrollment. Predicted upward trends in college enrollment and an increase in applications have necessitated the turning away of choice Christian young peo ple who desire to receive the training Biola offers. Because of the faithfulness of God’s people throughout the world, the blessings of the Lord have been manifold, making possible the con struction and occupancy of the present build ing, comprising an investment of over $3,500,- 000.00, on a completely debt-free basis. Under a policy adopted by the Biola Board of Directors, the school has not and does not plan to borrow money for construction purposes.

The URGENT need in order to accommodate expected enroll ment for the fall of 1962 is for CASH to begin construction by May cm a Ladies’ Dormitory, a Men’s Dormitory, and a Classroom- Music building. SIX HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS . . . seems like a staggering sum, but to the One who owns “the wealth in every mine,” it is a small amount. Your gift, regardless of its size, will be an investment in the future of America and in the training of dedicated young people for a growing and effective Christian witness around the world- A d d r e s s a l l i n q u i r i e s to : THE BIBLE INSTITUTE OF LOS ANGELES, INC. 558 S.
