THE PEOPLE WE’RE MOST THANKFUL FOR
T hanksgiving is the time of year to be thankful, and at Hare Wynn, we have a lot to be thankful for, even in this hard year. It goes without saying that 2020 has been one of the most difficult years for many people, and not just in our state or even our country. The pandemic and the challenges that come with it have affected the whole world. Though some people didn’t have too hard a time these past few months, many others have experienced great difficulties. Yet, even during hardships, it’s important to focus on the good that has happened. Focusing on what we have, on the good outcomes, and the overall positive moments of our lives isn’t just a perspective that feels good — it’s good for us. Being thankful for what you have improves your overall well-being. Researchers have thoroughly studied the practice of gratitude, and their research has shown that it helps people lead better lives. At Hare Wynn, we want to cultivate this healthy habit and focus on what we’re thankful for this year, starting with the people who we interact with every day. Our team is thankful for the chance to serve the many organizations we support, which do incredible work to benefit others and the community. If you’ve read past editions of our newsletter, or just take a look inside this one, you’ll learn about some of the organizations we’ve been able to help. It’s been wonderful to do what we can
to help them through this year and offer support to the people they help too. We will continue to do this in the new year as well! We’re also grateful to the many attorneys across the country who have put their faith in our firm, and to our incredible staff who have stepped up to the plate in the midst of this pandemic. We’ve been able to continue to serve our clients through these past months because of the efforts of our team members. We are also thankful to the clients we’ve served in 2020. Helping them remove any unnecessary stress during this very stressful year has been our pleasure. Finally, we are very thankful for our team members’ good health and the many opportunities we’ve had to spend more time with family this year. Two of our attorneys have added to their families this year. Our Managing Partner, Leon Ashford, added a fifth grandson, Greyson, in May. Attorney Jonathan Fannin had his first child, Jack, back in March. We are so thankful for the life that has been brought into the world this year and for the chance to watch and hear how these two boys have grown these past few months. While 2020 may have been difficult, it does not mean that there is nothing to be thankful for, whether that’s people, work, our families and homes, or life itself. This Thanksgiving, we hope that your holiday is filled with cheer, joy, and many thanks.

to Sink Their Teeth Into Watching your child grow and experience new things is one of the most wonderful parts about being a parent. Yet, many firsts, like a child’s first visit to the dentist, can be scary for them. That’s why it’s so important to talk to them about their first appointment and what it might be like. Reading to your kids is one of the best ways to help them understand the world around them, including dental health and going to the dentist. Here are three books that your child will learn from and love! ‘Brush, Brush, Brush!’ This rhythmic book can help your child get into a groove while brushing their teeth. What’s great about this book is that the words can be sung to the tune of “Do Your Ears Hang Low?” This helps your child remember proper techniques as they’re dancing along to their new song. The combination of the song and bright illustrations will assure that your child loves this book. “Brush, Brush, Brush!” can be found at Barnes & Noble for $6.95.
‘Going to the Dentist’ Part of the “Usborne First Experiences” series of children’s books, this book follows Jake and Jessie, two children who are going to their very first dentist’s appointment. Alongside colorful illustrations, this story details what a dentist’s appointment is like in an easy-to-understand way. It even shows kids what a cavity is when the dentist discovers a “hole” in one of Jake’s teeth. There are also educational takeaways as the story tells why it’s important to take care of your teeth, along with some ways to keep them healthy. Find “Going to the Dentist” in paperback on Amazon for $4.95. ‘The Berenstain Bears Visit the Dentist’ Join Sister and Brother Bear as they visit a dentist — Sister’s got a loose tooth and Brother’s found a cavity! This book captures the anxiety a child might feel before a dental visit, as Brother teases Sister about going to the dentist. However, not only does Sister have a wonderful visit with Dr. Bearson, but she also gets a visit from the Tooth Fairy. You can find this book on Amazon in paperback for $4.49 or on Kindle for $4.99.

lost loved ones to the fight. Many of our lives — attorneys, staff, and clients — have been impacted by suicide. By teaming up with this organization, we hope to encourage people to speak up and reach out for help, support those who are suffering, and spread awareness of this issue. Just as it’s changed so many things, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way AFSP will host their Out of the Darkness Walks. However, their message and mission remain the same: to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. This year, many of the activities will be held virtually, including online education programs and team activities that focus on positive mental health. This fall event will take place on Nov. 8 this year. By the time this newsletter arrives at your door, this date may have already passed, but that does not mean this fight is over. At Hare Wynn, our team stands up for and supports those in need in many different ways. As law professionals, we help our clients with any legal matters they face, but as community members, we reach out to organizations to help raise awareness and educate. This month, our team has joined the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) in the Alabama Out of Darkness Experience. The Out of Darkness Experience program aims to connect and support individuals whose lives have been impacted by suicide as well as educate the public. This program is very important to us, and our team believes educating the community and increasing awareness of suicide prevention is crucial in saving lives and supporting individuals who have
Despite the Challenges of 2020
Unlike Memorial Day, Veterans Day is a time to honor the U.S. veterans who have fought for our country and survived. These individuals risked their lives to fight, and it’s that bravery and unwavering devotion that we recognize by observing this holiday. This year, Veterans Day takes place on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, annual traditions to celebrate Veterans Day will be different. Many states, towns, counties, and cities have announced that the traditional Veterans Day parades will be canceled. This is a huge blow. The parades are one of the best ways to not only honor veterans but also mingle with other people all intent on showing just how much the community appreciates their efforts. Additionally, family members and friends might not be able to visit loved ones who are veterans due to the restrictions of care facilities. However, despite the changes and difficulties, there are still plenty of ways we can support our veterans this year.

Fly the Flag
Even at home, we can show our support by flying the American flag. Our flag is a great way to show patriotism and lets all veterans know that they are in our thoughts. When flying your flag, be sure to follow the proper rules for displaying the flag, which you can find at Military.com.
Donate
These candied sweet potatoes will make your family beg for more!
A great way to support veterans is to donate to charities specifically for them. Military.com lists several organizations you can donate to, including Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project, and Homes for Our Troops. You can also donate to support military working dogs that fight on the front lines with our soldiers through Petco or Natural Balance.
Ingredients
• 1 tbsp kosher salt • 1/4 tsp ground cloves • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cubed • 4 (2-inch) cinnamon sticks
• 4 lbs orange-fleshed sweet potatoes, peeled and cut crosswise into 2-inch pieces, then cut lengthwise into 1-inch wedges • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
Write a Letter
While you might not be able to meet veterans face to face, you can always write them a letter or send them a postcard. Since text messaging and instant messaging have become popular forms of communication, taking the time to sit down and write a letter gives the act a lot of meaning. Veterans are sure to appreciate having their service recognized in a handwritten letter.
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 F. 2. Place sweet potato wedges in a 4-quart baking dish. 3. Sprinkle sugar, salt, and cloves over sweet potatoes.
Now is the time we should show how much we appreciate our veterans in any way we can!
4. Dot with butter and place cinnamon sticks around sweet potatoes. 5. Bake, turning every 15 minutes, until sweet potatoes are tender and the liquid is syrupy, about 1 hour and 15 minutes. 6. Remove from the oven and let stand for 10 minutes. 7. Discard cinnamon sticks and serve.

Top 5 Healthy Life Hacks to Have an Awesome Morning
Top 5 Healthy Life Hacks to Have an Awesome Morning Getting your day started with coffee isn’t always enough. Sometimes, you need to give yourself an extra boost, especially when you have little energy or trouble focusing. For an awesome start to your day, here are five tips to get you going right off the bat.
Take a quick morning walk — and have your meetings on the go. Morning meetings can make us want to fall asleep again. Don’t spend all of them sitting down if you don’t have to! Not only will morning walks help you wake up, but they can also add some extra physical activity to your day. Write in your journal. Who says you have to journal at the end of the day when you’re tired and ready to sleep? You can journal in the morning about what happened yesterday and the things you’re looking forward to that day. Journaling can remind you of your daily goals and motivate you to stick to your commitments. Pack your lunch (or snacks!). Staying on track with your goals starts with having the energy to do them. Plan a healthy balance of fats, vegetables, carbohydrates, and proteins. This can be as simple as assembling dips, carrots, wraps, and salads each morning.
Wake up 5 minutes early. What’s the power of five minutes? It can be more than you think. Spend this time doing simple breathing exercises or a quick meditation so you can get focused for the rest of the day. If that’s not your style, you can prepare a quick to-do list for your day ahead. Either way, it’s always nice to have a little extra time for yourself without losing too much sleep. Start with green tea, then coffee. A cup of coffee at 7 a.m. can leave you burned out by 10 a.m. Try swapping it with green tea for a more gentle wake-up call. After that, you can brew your favorite coffee to keep you going strong. This practice also might help you consume less caffeine overall!
It’s time to try these tactics to superboost your day!
