The Lincoln Memorial further serves as the discussion of democracy, tolerance, and the extension and protection of civil rights. Situated on the western side of the National Mall, the Lincoln Memorial has three chambers. Etched into the walls are excerpts of the Gettysburg Address.
War II Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, and the Vietnam War Memorial. We leave with a new appreciation and message. The civil discourse surrounding these freedoms began with George Washington and our Founders, extended to Lincoln, and continues today. During a visit to D.C., my wife had the opportunity to stand on the Speaker’s Balcony at the Capitol. She stood there and looked out over the National Mall toward the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial and felt the conversation of democracy and legacies. I have deepened my appreciation for both President’s Day and the men who created the country we know today. So, this year, I encourage everyone to reflect on what they know about our country and its history, and if you have the time, take a moment and push a little deeper and learn more about how we got here and the
Going to the Lincoln Memorial at night is a personal favorite. The design and message are hauntingly beautiful — and the mightiness of Lincoln himself cannot go unnoticed or unfelt. The Lincoln Memorial has served as the location for many pivotal moments in our nation’s history, demonstrating yet again that the conversation between our great leaders is not yet finished.
We love visiting D.C.: going to Supreme Court oral arguments, riding the Senate subway, touring the Capitol, watching pivotal moments in the galleries of the House and Senate, touring Smithsonian Museums, and visiting monuments and memorials. As you walk the National Mall, you are surrounded by the voices and stories of those who have fought to protect our freedoms. Each time, we visit the World
