Harrell’s Employee Handbook, September 2023
TIME OFF AND TYPES OF LEAVE ATTENDANCE Harrell’s believes that a good attendance and punctuality record is an essential component of good work performance. Calling in sick or late If an employee is sick or knows they will be late, they must call in within the hour before their shift begins. An employee must call in personally and speak with their supervisor. The employee must leave a message if a supervisor cannot be reached. Illness When an employee is absent due to illness, they must use vacation or sick time for the day. If an employee has exhausted their vacation or sick time, the absence will be unpaid. If an employee is absent from work for more than three days due to illness, a doctor’s note may be required. If no doctor’s note is provided, the employee may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination. General Absenteeism and Tardiness • Unplanned, unscheduled absences from work (aside from illness or emergencies) are unacceptable. • Repeated tardiness will not be tolerated. • Being incarcerated is an unexcused absence, and the employee must still call in. Each case will be evaluated based on the surrounding facts and circumstances and at the sole discretion of Harrell’s. Management may determine that absenteeism or tardiness is excessive if, based on all the facts and circumstances, it is found disruptive to Harrell’s business, co-workers, or customers. Should the Company determine in its sole judgment that absenteeism or tardiness is excessive or disruptive, it may result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination of employment. No Call, No Show • Employees who miss one workday with a no-call no-show will receive a written warning. A second No Call No Show occurrence within a rolling 12-month period will result in immediate termination. • Three consecutive days of No Call No Show will be considered a voluntary separation. CORPORATE AND INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERING Harrell’s recognizes its responsibility as a good corporate citizen to help enrich our surrounding communities of residence and work. Harrell’s encourages its employees to become involved in their communities, lending their voluntary support to programs that positively impact the quality of life within these communities. The following guidelines are for Harrell’s employees who serve as volunteers in community programs that are either of personal interest or are corporate-sponsored initiatives. Personal interest programs are those whose goals are considered strategically relevant to the company's mission but may not be company-funded. Examples include The American Red Cross, Goodwill, The Talbot House, Habitat for Humanity, and other local non-profit organizations.
