Transformative gifts Shelley Keach Senior Development Manager I sat down with three generous members of the Christ’s College community to talk about why they choose to give. Each story was different, but a common thread quickly emerged – a belief in the transformative power of opportunity and the role generosity plays in creating it.
Christ’s College has always been shaped by generosity. Long before today’s boys walked through the gates, individuals who believed deeply in the value of education chose to invest in its future. Their foresight ensured the school could grow, evolve, and remain accessible to talented young men who might otherwise never have had the chance to attend. The impact of that generosity continues to ripple through our College community today. For Old Boy and current Christ’s College Chair Jeremy Johnson, philanthropy was not an abstract idea – it was the reason he was able to come to College. “My time at College was transformative – opening up a whole world of interest and opportunities that I eagerly grabbed,” he says. “I was mindful at the time – and remain very mindful – that without the Somes Scholarship I was given then, I would not have been able to attend.” Receiving that scholarship shaped his view of giving.
