We knew we were running out of time, so we left the basement as quickly as we could. I went straight to our broadcast van and started a live position; our cameras fixed on the tower as the tension built. A few seconds later, the Israeli warplanes launched the missile strike. The tower was reduced to rubble before the eyes of the world. In that bitter moment, those words trickled out of my mouth. Unconsciously, I repeated the phrase five times. Despite our losses, we went on fulfilling our mission: to tell the truth. Al Jazeera’s crew across the besieged Gaza Strip continued their field coverage with absolute dedication and with even greater fortitude. The tower has collapsed, but our resolve has not.
