And we followed Trump from the White House lawn to Walter Reed Hospital after he tested positive for COVID-19. We were there when he went on a short drive to greet supporters and remained there until he was discharged. When the Abraham Accords between Israel and two Arab countries – the UAE and Bahrain – were signed on the White House lawn, Al Jazeera followed the ceremony every step of the way. At the end, I kept asking myself: “Have we gone over-the-top covering Trump and giving him all that space?” I believe my question can be deemed parallel to the philosophical question: “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it; does it make a sound?” The answer is negative. Trump was not just a news creator; he was the locomotive dragging the local and world media behind him. Al Jazeera went one extra mile, explaining to its audience the key reasons behind Trump’s ascension; as well as those behind his fall.
