psychological field. While Rosemead's Psy.D. program requires a dissertation, topics may be chosen with greater flexibility in clinical-professional areas than is typical for the Ph.D. For students without previous graduate study, the Psy.D. program re quires approximately five years of full-time study, including a clinical internship. THE DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY DEGREE The Ph.D. degree in Psychology signifies completion of a course of study de signed to prepare students for careers in academic psychology. It includes ground ing in general psychology and in research techniques. In addition to the core re quirements shared with the Psy.D. program, including an internship, the Ph.D. de gree requires a research emphasis culminating in successful completion of an origi nal research project and one year of supervised clinical internship in an approved setting. For students without previous graduate study, the Ph.D. program requires approximately five years of full-time study. Only a limited number of research oriented students will be admitted to the Ph.D. program each year. DEGREE REQUIREMENTS REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MASTERS PROGRAM Rosemead's terminal M.A. requires a total of 60 hours of course work over a two-year period with the following distribution: Psychology: The psychology requirement constitutes a minimum of 41 hours, in cluding Pre-Practicum and 6 hours of Practicum experience. Theology: The program requires a minimum of 13 hours in Theology, including the sequence in Biblical Studies. Integration Seminars: M.A. students must take a minimum of 6 hours of seminars in the Integration of Psychology and Theology. Professional growth experiences include three semesters (or 60 hours) of group therapy. Transfer credit from accredited graduate schools or seminaries may be applied where appropriate to the M.A. program, but not to exceed 9 hours in psychology and/ or 9 hours in theology. One Practicum may be transferred with the permission of the Director of Clinical Training (see under General Academic Infor mation). A minimum of one year of residence is required for the M.A. degree. Most stu dents will , however, require a full two years of study to complete the program. A curriculum outline for the M.A. degree is found elsewhere in this catalog. A faculty advisor is assigned to each M.A. student for consultation and program planning. REQUIREMENTS FOR DOCTORAL PROGRAMS (1) Residence and Course Work A minimum of four years of residence is required for the doctorate. While the doctorate is not awarded simply for completion of stated course work, there are basic unit requirements for the doctorate. Each student is assigned a faculty advisor who assists in the planning of each semester's schedule of courses and supervises the student's progress in the program. For transfer credit, see under General Academic Information. 35
